Being teetotal
Discussion
Live your own life. People WILL respect you.
A long time ago I decided that I would leave work "do's" after thre pints at 8pm ish.
Time after time the crowd pillory me. Then on Monday they wish they'd done the same. No one remembers who leaves early to go home to their family. Everyone remembers the person who barfed and told the CEO he's a c nt, or who slept with the office bike.
Remember these words. I realised this too late, really.
I'm thinking of becoming teetotal, as drinking no longer holds the appeal it once did for me, and instead just bloats me out. I can't drink wine or lager, so that leaves ale/bitter or shorts, and pints tend to get me pissed after a while, and it takes fecking days to recover, so maybe teetotal is the way forward

Mate, nothing beats staying out for two beers with work, going home early in a cab, and having a delicious meal and a good glass of red, and an early night. Just after reading the facebook postings of the daft c nts who stayed out.....Have you tried smoking a joint before going out? Its not my thing (I prefer a drink) but seems almost more socialy acceptable these days.
Under no circumstance should you have to split the bill if you dont drink. Just remember how much your bill was and either chuck the cash and a small tip down or go to the bar and pay your share. Nobody minds, I do it all the time.
We have friends who dont drink who are as much if not more fun to be around.

Same here
Shy and tired when on a night out and not drinking, but alcohol does not like me, shame I like alcohol
I could give it up easy enough, apart from missing a lovely real ale and the odd red wine which is enough for me
Thing is I find it very difficult to talk to new people unless I've had a couple, and I have a naturally grumpy face, so people just think I'm a moody bh

I'm a light drinker; after one pint I lose the desire to want to taste another as the flavour is no longer there. I can still enjoy the company on a night out... plus someone has to remember what went on, encourage drunks to do crazy things, come up with crazy ideas for embarrassment and provide photographic evidence the next day. As for the bill, I don't pay my "fair" share. I pay for what I have consumed plus a tip. Just gotta "MTFU" and speak your mind. Nobody usually complains. And yes, I still get invited out. People respect your decisions if you stick by them.
I don't drink, personal choice rather than medical. The smell of most alcohol makes me feel ill so I don't even bother attempting to drink it.
I've found that how the night goes depends entirely on the company you're in. If I've been out with friends who intend to go out and get pissed then I tend to leave very early because I quickly get bored. On the other hand if the itention is to have a few drinks and a chat then it's much easier and I'll often stay until the entire party ends for the evening.
Out of the 2 crowds I would also say that the first lot are the worst for "What do you mean you don't drink? Everyone drinks, come on I'll buy you a pint" pressure. Which is another reason for leaving early. The vast majority are fine with it, but there's always one irritating little tit in those groups that thinks you should be just like everyone else and get pissed too. Whereas at a relaxed social thing there's an increased chance that you won't be the only one staying sober that evening and it's harder to gang up on two or three people.
It saved me a fortune at university though, I was the only person that didn't dip into their overdraft, everyone else used theirs to keep the university bar profits well out of the red!

I've just started a 3 month temporary T-total run.
Just because I think I've been beering it a bit too much lately. 5 or 6 nights a week - with a beer or 2 on weekdays, and a reet good swaller at the weekends.
I'm already feeling better for it - and looking forward to many summer hoons and a cup of tea to follow.

True, except for one or two. Most ABs are affected by alcohol, but only in terms of reduced efficacy. If you're ill and you want your drugs to get you better quickly, it's normally a good idea not to drink.
Edited for spelling spackery
