To (miss) quote Dr Who and others here after my experience of a fairly interesting second story balcony fall onto concrete....

'Don't sneeze. Look into the sun and you're dead.Turn your back.Look away.Whatever you do,don't sneeze.Good luck'

3 ribs, 1 ankle,1 wrist.

Holy thread resurrection

I have either fractured or heavily bruised some ribs go-karting a fortnight ago.

The pain initially wasn't noticeable - I was generally a bit beaten up after karting, as one is, but nothing particular in the ribs area

However, I then went for my usual long run the following Saturday and my Christ, my ribs were in agony for two days.

Reading through this thread, it seems that rest is the only option.

However, what exercise can I do that won't make rib pain worse? I

I'm pretty active, running three times a week and playing golf - all of which seem to be off the cards at present frown

How long between karting and the pain? Fractures are immediate...

Did you crash? Or where they fast grippy karts?

There's a reason a lot of folks wear rib protectors.

Many years ago I bought a rib protector after an endurance race... Thought I'd broken a couple of ribs - it was agony. Equal to when I did later break a rib skiing.

It was abroad.

They were fairly normal rental karts I thought, not particularly fast or grippy.

There was however a reasonable-size bump when the track surface changed on every lap. I think this is what did for me as it was a right-hander and my pain is on the left in the side.

I karted on the Tuesday.

I had general feeling-a-bit-beaten-up over the next few days

I went running on the Saturday of the same week. As soon as I started running, I had pretty intense pain in my ribs on the side.

Being male, I thought it would go away. It didn't.

As Bill is suggesting, the force needed to break a rib means it’s going to hurt straight away. You know when you’ve done one.
