Looks a bit surprised! Congrats!
Doesn't he just! Almost gutted!

Many congrats!!!

Mrs C is now 32 or 33 weeks and has just about had enough. Actually we both have! A question. Someone mentioned that the hospital said to wait until the pain becomes unbearable, but doesn't that mean there is a danger that they won't be able to administer an epidural? Mrs C is adamant she wants the whole 9 yards, so we NEED this!

Congrats Di and Matt. Looks like he is shouting 'hey look at me, I have arrived'.

I look forward to meeting him and giving him a cuddle.

Best wishes and good health from his 8 month old new friend too.

Wait for what? Iirc the recommendation is 3 contractions in 10 mins and it is time to go to hospital.

As for epidural, I think they want them in by the time you are 7 or 8cm as it takes time to setup and may deliver in the meantime!

Oh, it all sounds rather complicated. I think we'll end up going in at the slightest twinge, as Mrs C is quite worried about the whole thing.
The bas'tid thing is that we have to pay for it all. Both having started new jobs recently, the old private health cover doesn't cover existing conditions. Looking at the bank balance, she can have a bit of gas, and needs to be out of there in 45 mins!

Depends on her labour, mine went quite well I think and I didn't find it nearly as painful as I thought it would be; yes it hurts, but it was manageable with the Entonox for me, I think I did ask for more at one stage but looking back now; didn't need it and I doubt it would have ended the same (natural), I think you need your wits about you for pushing and by then I found contractions had got less intense; I found i didn't need as much pain relief at the pushing bit; it was just hard to get that gas and air tube away from me wink

Congrats Both! He looks just lovely!

In relation to contractions we were going around 1 minute long and 3 minutes apart from around 1am. We phoned and they said there is no point coming in yet. Have a bath watch some telly and come in when the pain becomes too much. It isn't easy to do anything when the contactions come in. We were in the hospital at around 6am. So 5 hours of contractions and we were 3cm dilated. Just on the edge of established labour.

Took another 18 hours before he made an appearance! Mrs Silvs was high as a kite on pethidine so doesn't really remember the amount of time. It is the longest and most anxious time in the world. The noises she made during the pushing was awful to hear them!

He is 4 days old now and I am writing this with him asleep on my chest whilst Mrs Silvs is up stairs sleeping. The house is a mess, I haven't slept more than 2 hours at a time this week and I have never been so happy! It is like I have always known him. No idea why I was worrying if pro-creating was the right thing to do!biggrin

We were similar, 5 hours of mild contractions and we were 4cms on arrival, just a bit less frequent than 3 mins, we hit 3 min mark by 4 cms though, he arrived 7 hours later, so I really feel for mrs silvs going through at least double that! frown hope she is recovering well? X

She did 18 hours of hard work with just gas and air and some pethidine, once he was born and cleaned up they discovered she had to go into surgery. She had to have an Epidural then so she was rather pissed that she had done all the hard work and needed an epidural in the end anyway. Especially as there was a 12 hour delay between birth and surgery.

She is recovering well, feeding requires a lot more energy than we ever realised so she is getting rest between feeds. Max is sleeping 4 hours between them without any problems so that is a total blessing. Mrs Silvs being waited on hand and foot which she has well and truly earned.

Are you still in the hospital?

Have done NICU three times, I can tell you milk can take 4 days to come in. Nothing wrong with that. If you can get something smelling of baby and a photo and a warm bath, that can help. Good luck with it all x

After a fairly simple 12 hour labour, baby C as we will call him for now, was born at 4.43pm weighing in at 7lb3, he was whisked off to neonatal for assessment and as arranged is awaiting an op for his blocked bowel, he is quite clearly gorgeous hehe
So first night in, baby in neonatal, hubby snoring on hospital bed next to mine, tired and even more tired; can I sleep???
irked
Will try uploading a picture of little man in a mo but not sure how the picture hosting via mobis
Fantastic weight for 37 weeks! Many, many congratulations both of you. Welcome baby C - I wish you a long and happy life.

Don't be afraid of nabbing the ward doctor and asking for help if you're really struggling with sleep, mind.

It's all a bit up in the air still, he seemed to be processing his milk do they are persevering with feeding to see what happens, his body is not taking in as much milk as it should so they are reassessing on Monday, as long as its sorted ASAP op or no op
Think I'm being discharged tomorrow, our name is on list for the Ronald McDonald house

He is on uv light and having blood sugar monitored think all his other stats are good, so it's just finding out why he's not processing his feed and then we can get a move on
He's a strong one though, they said from the start he is not as floppy as some downs and he keeps giving the nurses good kicks and thumps when they try to get blood off him: he is incredibly hard to bleed they keep saying, covered in pin pricks frown

Just can't wait to get him home now! X

He has indeed arrived.

Contractions got steadily worse where he arrived at 6:11 pm on Friday. After a very very good effort from Mrs Silvs she had to be taken into theatre in order to tidy things up but we were delayed 12 hours due to several emergency C sections in a row. I have just returned home and have not slept since 01:30 on Friday morning.

Mrs Silvs and him are still in hospital just overcoming her surgery and to make sure he is latching well for feeding.

Say hello to Max.

I am off to sleep.. up again at 7!
Congratulations Jake - just seen this.

Awful that, isn't it? Elsie had heels like pin cushions after a week of twice daily bilirubin tests. Broke my heart every time they had to take her blood. So glad to hear that his levels are back to where they need to be.

The blood tests have been horrible today, they tried five times to get blood for his bilirubin test before they gave up and called a guy up from the special baby care unit, who took what seemed like five seconds to fill two capillary tubes and take his bm sample. His canular has failed a couple of times too because his heamoglobin is higher than normal so he's clotting too quickly. They are considering putting in a long line tomorrow, will also mean they can start him on tpn as he's not on milk through his feeding tube anymore.
They plan to have him in for a contrast X-ray tomorrow too to see if they can get to the bottom of the milk not getting out of his stomach, Di and I feel pretty sure now that he will need an op of some description to sort it out.

On a lighter note Charlie wee'd up my arm while we were changing him earlier hehe all the uncertainty that we are going through at the moment seems to disappear for a few minutes each time he rolls his head over and looks straight at you smile

The long lines are petty cool in that they really help. Oh watched one of ours having it put in which is maybe not to be recommended. But they do work. I think one of ours was on tpn for a few weeks and they make tpn up specially for each baby based on what they need (I think from their blood tests).
