Charlie is looking surprisingly well though in the photo Di posted on FB so fingers crossed he's on the mend now and continues to get better smile

We've had a few new babies to our toddler group the last few weeks, all within 4 weeks of age of each other and I am surprised at the huge difference between development and their abilities. Compared to Noah, they are still, and look very baby baby and everyone is genuinely shocked when I say he's only just turned 9 months. Being quite tall I think throws everyone.

His new venture this week is taking the dining chairs for a walk so I think I need to get him a little wooden block walker which I'm sure he'll ignore and continue to use things that worry me senseless hehe

Loving the car SL, I still haven't taken Michael out in the Elise, ear defenders were bought before he was born! But if they're anything like his sun hats, he'll be trying to take them off the minute they're on!
Heh, thanks. I am loving the Exige. It's identical to one I had three years ago and wish I'd never sold. So much fun!!! But ear defenders are not going to stay put so all hopes I had of being able to drive it everyday instead of the barge have gone out of the window frown

No idea, although they did explain that's the way children work. When an adult is poorly they normally gradually get poorly whereas a child normally goes I'm ok, I'm ok, I'm ok, now I'm really not very well at all.

Because if we knew in advance, humanity would've come to an end eons ago.

Feels like we've turned a corner with Charlie, last night he went for an emergency exploratory operation to see if they could find out what was causing the infection because despite the infection getting better, his tummy was still very swollen and he'd been really distressed for a couple of days

I felt the surgeon was originally reluctant to go in and look for fear of finding nothing and having had the op without getting anywhere, however afterwards he said it was a good decision to make as the bowel had twisted around an old adhesion from the previous operation, cut off blood supply and died, which would have happened last Monday

He had to cut out a third of the small intestine which had died and as he was unsure about joining the two bits of bowels back together he brought them out to a stoma on a temporary measure until he is sure he got all the dead bowel out

So poor little Charlie has been through the mill!!

He's had a good day today, they've been on top of his drugs when he was unsettled and he also smiled a bit today too!
As for mum n dad, such a roller coaster ride I'm not sure how I feel right now, relieved definitely but just so emotional all the time
Can't wait to get home and settled again to get our life back on track as time stands still in here, everyday is different; good day bad day.
Today was good!!

That's great news that he's over the worst. Thanks for the info about the rapid deterioration thing Matt172 - I had no idea that's how babies work.

Get well soon Charlie.

Thanks for sharing the pic (even though it's horrid to see him like that), he still looks big and strong. I hope you can get a little more rest now, I can't imagine how stressful it has been.

He's looking good at the top end, bit rough at the bottom end with a double stoma, femareal line in groin, arterial line in foot, supra pubic into bladder (through skin not willy frown ) two failed 'into bone' lines, but after a week the marks are still quite red
Top end looks fab smile

Charlie is still continuing to slowly recover from his bowel op, we were promoted from intensive care to the surgical ward on the 25th May, and a week later promoted again into our own room which gives us a bit more privacy .
It seems to be a fine balancing act getting the outputs from his stoma right, as his first stoma is so short it doesn't have much chance to absorb anything before coming out, they are recycling what comes out back into the other side of his stoma to let the rest of his bowel absorb the 'poo' which seems to be working well, we even had a poo yesterday.

They've also removed his supra pubic catheter so he is wee'ing properly with a little bit escaping from the hole they made while it heals itself. Surgeons think it will be around the 4th July that they reattach the two stoma and we can start feeding properly so still a long way to go, as well as tpn he gets a whole 10ml of milk every 4 hours (is semi digested so that he can absorb it easier)

When they first started him on TPN (liquid nutrition into his Hickman line) it was over 24 hours so we were pretty much confined to the wards, but last couple of days this has been reduced to 20 hours so we get chance to escape smile yesterday we got to go for a walk as a family outside for the first time in 29 days bounce only slightly marred when we got back to the hospital and his bag split covering him in stomach juice frown

Still amazes me when you look at the difference between when he first came in and now how quickly he bounced back
