They have confirmed that he will definitely need an op to fix his duodenal blockage (seems to be only partial rather than complete) he had a contrast X-ray this afternoon, nursie was telling me that they put 20ml of dye through and only 2 got through to the other side.
Op will be tomorrow afternoon and they are planning on putting a central line in at the same time for his tpn rather than using the long line, we then start the long road to recovery, docs are talking that we will be here for a month depending on how he progresses with feeds.
The staff on the ward have been great with Charlie and looking after us, we put in for a room at the Ronald McDonald house yesterday, last night we were 11th out of 12 on the list, this afternoon after the decision was made to do the op we have jumped to 2nd from the top biggrin

He's in Tom's at the moment, he'll either go down to PHDU for the first day after his op or straight back up here if they aren't overly worried.
He's done the full tour of the high dependency wards hehe first day he went from the delivery suite to SCBU (who then ran out of space) and then down to PHDU (I think it's quite apt that the child of two ph'ers went to a ward that had PH in the title) he transferred up to Tom's the day after

nervous nervous nervous nervous

Mrs P is due today. No sign yet.

Biggest worry- seeing Mrs P in pain and being unable to fix it. secretly i'm totaly unreasonably worrying that she might die in childbirth- its really praying on my mind!

.....and normally i'm totally logical and not given to flights of fancy!

I'm recovering very well thanks nicola, getting fit making the long trek back n forth to Charlie from my ward

Mr and mrs p
Don't worry too much, the mrs will deal with it in her own way, think Matt felt like a spare part at times as the midwives just seem to give the ladies the time, freedom and courage they need to get them through it, hopefully it'll be a nice quick straightforward one with no problem
Most of all, don't panic hehe

Really? You may have the same due date as us; the 16th?

Properly worried here too!

Mrs C.A.R. has been in the hospital on 'monitoring' twice now.

The screams the OH let out during child birth will remain with me forever, it is a scream that empties every drop of air from her lungs. Never has my opinion of her changed so rapidly and so drastically. She is infinitely more wonderful and amazing than ever before!

Luckily for her she remembers very little (Pethidine.. You need it in your life), and he is 9 days old. He feeds every 2 hours and is a little devil in the night. I wouldn't change a second!

Just watching the telly with Dad

Mrs C is due in 5 weeks but they say jnr will be early. Well, in fact they said be prepared, he could come anytime. Still got no idea what to do. All we know is the Mrs C will be having every drug and injection known to man.

Pugwash, I've had the same thoughts. Horrible thoughts. I'm sure it's normal.

Good luck all.

I thought I would repost in this thread...

I unfortunately had to leave the thread earlier this year as my OH had a miscarriage.

Well we have some good news now. She is pregnant again and is nearly at 15 weeks. We had our first scan and everything looks ok. Very, very excited, but also extremely nervous. I'm not sure I can cope with anymore negativity this year... I'm now part of the PH Parents of 2013 thread and we have been given a due date of 28th March 2013.

I'll echo that. It's tough. Miscarriage is a lot more common than most people think, it's a real "elephant in the room" though as not many talk about it. Best of luck!

Getting into the countdown now, 10 weeks to go and a date booked for induction incase there is a chance of going over term, - my wife works in SCBU and has a massive fear of the baby going over term.

Wifey in for a checkup today. BP elevated so they have booked us in for an induction as well, on the due date - clearly they don't want it going over term...

Hope Charlie is doing well.
I'm 40+5 today and am bloody miserable if I'm honest! So uncomfortable and just want this little sproglet out. Had to go to hosp yesterday as midwife appt showed babies heartbeat was too high, but after a couple of hours monitoring it calmed down of it's own accord. They tried a sweep, but cervix is nowhere near ready so it was unsuccessful and I've got to go back Monday to see what the next step will be. I really don't want to be induced, although of course if there is any risk to the baby I wouldn't hesitate.
Come OUT baby!!

He's doing really well thanks, the op went well and he seems to have taken it in his stride and recovered well, he is totally laid back about everything it seems smile he's back on the surgical ward now and after a day and a half on tpn they have started him on milk to see how he tolerates it, 1ml at a time every hour and will gradually increase as his duadinum starts working again, they have told us that's it's very much a 2 steps forward 1 step backwards but each little step is one step closer to us bringing him home

Hope your little one makes an appearance soon smile

Mrs C.A.R. spent another night in the hospital yesterday, hoped to be let out this morning. Just had a call from the MIL who says that she might have gone into labour, but they are still not sure (WTF?!) but she is now in agony and there's not a chance she'll be coming home tonight.

Maybe the baby will make an appearance early.
