Hi Northener
Good for you on doing the Ironman, must have been hard, and personally I see nothing wrong with you having a little break for a week and then getting back into your training for your next event.
Thank you - though it was 'only' the 70 mile middle distance Ironman. Good for you on doing the Ironman, must have been hard, and personally I see nothing wrong with you having a little break for a week and then getting back into your training for your next event.
You're right, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. But even after drinking such a short while the impact is noticeable. Moods are different, I'm sleeping in more, and what's bothering me is that I keep habitually reaching for beers each evening which was the problem in the first place. On top of that it's a load more calories I don't want. My physique is leaps and bounds better than it was before and I'm going to keep it that way.
And so after I'm done watching the TDF kick off in Leeds this weekend I'm officially dry again.
I did it first time around without any real effort so can't see it being any different this time around.

It sounds like stopping alcohol again won't be too difficult for you and then you can get into training for your next event.
I'm aiming to do 160km and 4,000m climbing on my bike with a friend in the mountains where I live later this year so I'm sure a reduction in calories from alcohol will help my fitness and weight before we attempt the ride.
My wife announced this morning that she would like to stop alcohol for a while as well (she drinks about 3 glasses of wine a week ) so that might make it easier for me.

Thank you. It really don't think it'll be a problem, I've a huge amount of willpower and determination, not that I think I'd need too much of it to quit again. I drank again last night and I am noticing a huge impact on me sleeping in late and not feeling too refreshed in the morning. It sounds like stopping alcohol again won't be too difficult for you and then you can get into training for your next event.

That's a fair ride you've got planned then. The reduction in calories should theoretically lead to a reduction in weight assuming your current energy expenditure remains constant. It'll be the weight, or lack of, that'll help with that amount of climbing. Other than that, low gear, steady state, tap away and you'll get there.
Good luck with it all.
Was on holiday last week, i think from memory i had at least one beer a night. Started off with some Stella in cans on the Monday .. YUK, ended up binning two from four, couple of pints of Peroni were lush then maybe a budweiser in between. I done well. Had a few buds on Sunday & actually really felt like a few last night but didnt. So back at the Gym tonight, i'm due a little one at the end of december so although i've got early teenage kids & done it all before i've promised myself to try & lose the gut & sort myself out for this arrival. Dont want my new baby seeing a fat alcoholic dad
6 months in for me. Don't miss it at all. Got a big private works do in a couple of weeks. Posh hotel, roof top bar, cocktails etc etc. Someone said are you disappointed you can't drink at it. I said no because its not that I can't drink but I don't want to. Drinking wont change my enjoyment of the evening but will make me talk bks.
I fell pretty good, lost weight and now when I train I find I am finally getting fitter and can recover so much more quickly than when I was drinking.
I still feel tired when I wake up in the morning though. Possibly need an early bed. I sleep well but don't spring out of bed. How long does it take to get that feeling?

I'm going to be drink free for a few weeks, even months I hope. I'm quite worried about my liver, poor thing. I want to stop any potential damage before it starts. I don't think I'm a heavy drinker, it just seems to creep up on me. A glass or two of red wine at home, five nights a week. Then the glass or two grows into three or four. No beer, no spirits, just red wine. It may not sound much, but it is for me.
So, I'm off the wine. Even for a few birthdays a holiday and a day event. I'll drive!
Wish me luck.
