I'm really busy with work, which helps. Took my mum out for brunch this morning, this would usually end with me staying around the West End to go into one of my favourite bars but I had the willpower to jump on the tube and went back home to do some work. Taking the train out to Reading shortly to meet a few friends, I'm in two minds about having a drink, but the older me would have had 2 or 3 beers for the train and I definitely won't be doing that.

I thought Brewdog was rotten, as bad as Cobra. Erdinger is ok, bit fizzy and quite sweet. To be honest they're all a bit st, better avoiding them altogether.

It's with an open bottle of red, which I used for a spaghetti bolognaise on Thursday; the wife doesn't drink red so both bottles will be sitting there taunting me!

Had some terrible cravings tonight which turned into dare I say it, depressive thoughts. Well I got my running kit on and went for a run in the snow. I'm finding weekends incredibly hard (day 21). I used to really look forward to my weekend drinks, but now I can't have it I feel like there is nothing to look forward to.

Definitely my hardest night as well.
I had nothing to do and was feeling out of sorts. I ran a 20k yesterday then met with friends in a pub at lunchtime who are big drinkers. I started with a Becks blue (hideous stuff) then went on to black current and soda. Carried on consuming sugary stuff when I got home (nearly a whole millionaires chocolate and caramel tart from morrisons) I had pretty much convinced my self it wouldn't hurt to drink last night. And I don't mean just a couple of beers I wanted to be at my sweet spot.
I somehow managed to keep putting off going to the shop.
I re read the posts I've made on here, read the diary I keep, checked the Callander to see how long it's been without drink (3 weeks today if I don't include the two glasses of wine on NYE) thought about how I would feel in the morning both physical(hangover) and mentally (Letting my self and others down)
Got to 10pm and went to bed and didn't wake up until 6am for a change.
Very close.

Not easy. I cannot say what you should do but I would get a vacuum stopper for the wine and save it for another stew. Think of it that way, it will not escape being downed but in a different way. Stick the other bottle out of sight on a top shelf in a room you do not use a lot.

Just pour them down the sink. It's not precious or irreplaceable.

That's a really decent night's sleep bearing in mind the early struggles you were having with this aspect. The more you detox the better it gets as your body gets back to a natural state. This is very positive - keep going.

It'll be a month soon which is a major - and difficult - first milestone. Breaking habits is very tough but definitely worth it. I went day to day, first month, then aim for 3 months, 6 etc and before you know it you don't want to go back to day 1 again

I can use the open bottle for cooking and the unopened present I can keep and drink it if I decide to not extend my dry Jan; if I do carry on noit drinking then I'm sure there will be a meal invite that I can take it too

Did a 4.5 mile run this morning; 36 minutes, I wouldn't have been able to do that if I'd drunk that bottle of red the night before.

Day 19, back to feeling good again and sleeping well, loads of energy but I'm just not shedding any weight.

I have lost the 2kg that I put on over Christmas and New Year; that went within a week, I did dry Jan 2 years ago and didn't lose any weight then either and I needed too just as I do now, I haven't been substituting alcohol with sugary foods and if anything my diet is far better now that it was 2 years ago and I didn't really excercise 2 years ago either; I'm far more active now and mindful of what I eat etc.

Maybe the weight loss will come, considering I was drinking about 5000 calories a week I was expecting more at this point.

I can honestly say i take my hat off to you guys.
I've tried on a couple of occasions to stop but keep falling down, i've now filled the fridge with Bavaria 0%, my wife thinks i'm cheating but its something i need to try, even just a bottle is enough for me.

For what it's worth, I wanted a really tangible benefit when I quit, so I embarked upon a three week diet that was very strict, alongside a pretty much daily exercise plan. It wasn't sustainable long term, so I always knew after three or four weeks I'd cut back on the exercise and low calorie plan (still healthy, just using exercise to make sure I was burning more than was going in, and what was going in was really good). I lost quite a bit of weight in three weeks as I was quite tubby to begin with, but it was a great morale boost and I was able to continue, albeit at a lower rate of loss afterwards.

It will come(the weight loss). I assume you have a fair bit to lose? If you have been pumping 5k calories in for a very long time your body will hold the fat for a while. It could take 6 weeks but it will melt off when the switch is flicked. It is the same principle when very trim people (and have been trim for years) eat a shed load of calories. Their bodies just burn it for weeks and weeks.

2-3 stone; more like 3.

I used to do alot of weights; stopped a few years ago, I'm broad shouldered 5'10", 46" chest, weigh 15.6 stone, I carry the weight well. Physically though I regard myself as fairly fit and healthy.

I'm 41 now and the older you get, the harder it is to shift and I'm more mindful now of the future; my dad was obese and died at 65, my sister is obese too, high blood pressure runs in my family as well.

Went out last night with colleagues for a meal and went to a bar offering 2-4-1 on cocktails; I love an espresso cocktail, however whilst I would have loved one, I wasn't too bothered that I didn't, I stuck with orange juice all night.

Went to bed at midnight and woke up fresh as a daisy.

The weight is starting to come off now and a guy who I haven't seen for a few weeks said that I looked slimmer.
