The best line for dealing with anxiety came from this very thread. If you always worry about what *may* happen look for the evidence.
This is exactly what my counselor said when I saw him last year. If I said I am worried X will happen, he would say "Where is the evidence for that."

I try and remind myself of that when I worry but it is not always easy.
It might be you who mentioned it, it's brilliant advice thumbup

It's called fortune telling.
It's what is known as a thinking error. (worth looking up).
Another 'popular' one is mind reading. Anticipating what someone is going to say and do in an upcoming situation like a meeting.
Therapy often encourages you to think about your thoughts and put them on trial.
It's amazing how often you can defeat them when you would normally have just accepted and run with them.

Very interesting. I think I need some more counselling to deal with this kind of thing. I;m always catastrophising that the worse will happen, Can't convince myself otherwise.

I've been wondering whether to post in this thread for a little while. paperbag

I know I'm not suffering from depression, but I am suffering from anxiety issues. I think many people get the 2 confused, or GPs may not ask the right questions.

I realised it when I had a long drive on my own recently, no-one to talk to, and I was thinking about why I've been so tetchy, sleeping poorly, generally agonising over work issues, stupid amounts of work, lack of staff, etc.

When I got back from my trip I told my wife I needed some help and I made an appointment to see my GP, and I saw him last Thu. I explained my symptoms, started blubbing a bit, etc. My GP understood my anxiety and asked me if I wanted to be signed off until I go on holiday next weekend. Being signed off worried me in our current work climate - job cuts, restructuring, etc. I'd also then be agonising that my work would be piling up, not being looked at by anyone, and I'd have to sort everything out in the New Year!

Anyway, I have my first counselling session tomorrow and I hope that may help.

Fingers and toes crossed for all those above who are dealing with problems too. thumbup

I don't really like recommending stuff as what works for me might be useless for someone else

However this is so cheap

I found it really great actually although it is a different approach, rather than getting rid of the anxiety it teaches you to cope with it and live with it.

This is very similar to me. I thought about going and being signed off because the stress levels at work are going up and up and that is feeding my anxiety. If I was signed off then nothing would be done and then it would all be waiting for me in the new year and the clients would be pissed off because everything was late.

For now I have 3 days left till leave. I am keeping my head down and hiding as much as possible, trying to make it to holiday. I need a break as much as anything else.

Got a CBT session tonight, also all the tests that the doc has done have come back fine. Still can't sleep though the sertraline is giving me terrible insomnia.

Been free of depression for a couple of years now, then today, boom, total crash. Really lethargic, just no energy, and the feeling like I just want to curl into a ball and sob over nothing.

Thinking about it I sort of felt it coming on last night, but today is when it really hit me. Not the best timing really just before Christmas.

This time of year lends itself really well to a flare up. The smallest thing can be a trigger, then suddenly you find yourself enveloped by the mist you thought you were holding off. Almost as if you can hold off from one side but leave yourself open on other sides.
Please, if you feel it get towards a bad place, even the slightest hint, please go and talk to someone. I always found words could help a lot. Good luck, you'll beat it off like a good 'un.

How are people coping this time of year? After losing my job a month ago it feels I'm going down the slippery slope. Have had depression on and off for years but seems I can't cope with any sort of change in my life even when feeling well. Anyone else feel like this?

Ups and downs. Christmas is stressful which isn't helping, add some relationship issues into the bargain and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster.

Good diet and exercise are a big help. Should help sleep, Ruskie. Its always the basic things in life that make a real difference. Get some routine back in to your life, you never know what that may bring.

The Sun. Quiet. Then Music. All in the same day. It's largely worked for me for the last 6 years.

The UK really is a struggle if you/we have this problem. I understand that not all have this option but would recommend you try to work towards it.

Feel for you all.

I agree the sun has a big impact on your wellbeing this year has been the first for 10 years we've not had a sunshine holiday in the autumn, this is the first year I've suffered from anxiety it's also been a real struggle indoors if the light is poor or in the evenings.

Have you tried one of those light-boxes? Maplin's etc. sell them. Quite good I've heard.

I paid recently for a private vitamin d test over the web. My results were OK but I my Mums were below the required level. I get a bit SAD but she gets it worse.

Could be worth looking in to?

Absolutely. healthy levels should be circa 90, min as I found out yesterday was 48. Given that Im Indian it is common we have low Vitamin-D. Much to my amazement though I was diagnosed with Diabetes, which makes sense given my temperament and depressive nature lately.

Worth getting checked for Vit-D my friend.
