OK, that's not so good.

I'm hitting 600-650 calories over a 40 minute period (according to my Polar HR monitor), which is 50/50 rowing and cross training.

LOL I didn't actually vomit but was very aware I had pushed my limits somewhat - it's good to do sometimes otherwise you don't know where 'your limit' is.

15-16 calories per minute is much more comfortable & is probably better for you in the long run, but this challenge is a good one though!

Distance about 10.6 k? I run about the same as you on a treadmill but burn slightly more cals - I do the whole run on a 5% incline and laugh at how bad I feel when I stagger off the machine after an hour.
I normally run flat on the treadmill so that accounts for the difference, i think every 100 cals for me is about 1.15km so just over 11k for 1000 cals.
Nice one.Tried intervals? ( for those that don't run they're also known as HIT) They can produce a good used calorie reward and you can shorten the run to about 40 mins.

Currently a challenge in our office. 3000m on a concept 2 rower (set to 10). I've managed 13:53 so far...

In the best ' I'm a stupid sadist on the rower' accent, that also sounds painfully fun!

Currently have a man-flu virus, but will try that next week.

I normally do a slow 10k on the C2 (44' 30" give or take) or 30mins fartlek - 1min on - 1 min off

I'm running 10k after work tonight, I usually burn 930 calories if I am taking it easy so I am going to have a bit of a blast between 3k and 7k and see if I can do 1000 - 10k usually takes me about 38mins.

I'm 6ft5 and 88kg. I use the adidas micoach app to track everything.
That is very impressive. I think I may try beating my crosstrainer time on a treadmill next week; the only problem being I hate treadmills, running outside is fine, but I find treadmills really boring!

Just so long as you can measure it. I hva eno idea how you could measure your calories during sqaush though?!?

Well had another go on the cross trainer today, rather than varying the level, I just stuck to level 16, and aimed at 80rpm, which did falter a bit towards the end.

1000 calories in 43mins 29s. a long way from BrabusMog above though!

15 mins on a rower isn't too bad. Pretty sure I can improve on 13:53, as I've only been back at the gym this year - so had about 6 or 7 visits so far.

I did this 3000m on a concept 2 on 10 thing today in 12m:30s. Managed to keep around or below 2m / 500m up until 2km, then the last 1000 I was bksed! 2km to 2500 was around 2.18 per 500m, and I think over the line I was over 2m:30s!

It's a tougher than I thought, infact, after doing just 5min warmpup, then the challenge, I packed up and went for a swim, I was bushed! !

The rowers were taken first thing, so I did 20 mins on the cross trainer. Went off to the rower and managed 10 mins and 2000m, so was on target, but I was battered.

I'm going to keep at it, but 12:30 sounds like a good time.

13:37 today for 3000m.

A decent improvement, but I don't see me finding an extra minute just yet!

It helps that I am powerfully built..!! !

But I am pretty big and can get a proper full pull on the Concept 2, ie "oar" right forward to touch the frame before pull. 28-29 strokes a minute and it's around 2min per 500m for me.

The last 1000m was not pleasant!!

on the cross trainer 1000 calories in 40mins 39s.

will try the rower in a few days and see how I get on with that. I don't think there is much more I could do on the crosstrainer now without breaking myself!

Am I the only one reading these machines calorie burning measurements and thinking massive, massive overestimation?

Not questioning the effort put into the exercise, just thinking 1000 calories in 40 minutes is a little ambitious?

These machines are set up to make people feel good about themselves, I agree - the figures here are more likely half or even a quarter what the machine says. Still, as a comparison to compete on (as the thread is) it's ok. So long as all the posters are using the same brand of machine - if they're not then the machines will be set up to produce different figures anyway.

Thank Christ.

I thought I was just being a cynical, miserable sod.

I figured on half? But anyways, how many people will jump off these machines and stick a Mars Bar down their throat claiming they'd earnt it?

Now I am being a cynical, miserable sod ; )
