No, not for a long while and as an experiment with a soya based one.

Partly it tasted foul and also there were curious - and contradictory references to both cancer (some saying it reduced the risk of certain cancers, esp. testicular and yet others saying it might promote them!) and also to reports that it might increase estrogen and reduce testosterone. Probably all bks, if you pardon the pun.

For the last year or so I've mainly used PHD Smart Bars and a (pretty cheap) Reflex Gold from Tesco (chocolate is very palatable) or Whey Gourmet (pricier but nicer). I also had the BSN Super Six type which was the best tasting but no surprise as it was up to double the calorie and/or cholesterol of the others!

I've used dozens over the years, the good, the bad and the (very) ugly. Especially years back before they were so common/varied and as good, but will probably stick to Reflex Gold from now on.

Great interview with Lustig.

Robert Lustig: Oh, way because there’s no toxic downside. With sugar, Type II diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, gastric bypasses. $147 billion a year down a rat hole for taking care of chronic diseases which don’t need to be. We could balance the budget on that. We wouldn’t need healthcare reform if we had obesity reform and we can’t have obesity reform until we have some sort of sugar policy.

Supposedly it's good for training you to burn fat reserves as there's no other source of fuel. I try to do it at least once a week.

You would have thought so. But, though I can run first thing I'm absolutely fked if I try to swim without eating; quite pathetically slow and quickly knackered. Hey ho, the pool is too busy first thing anyway.

I'm a bit like that on a pool morning, but after around 25 mins, I get a 'second wind' and the second half of my swim seems a lot easier than the slog it feels like to start with.

Been looking for an easy protein food, snack type that isn't protein bar.
Tried tofu, it's not great but add a little sweetness and it's grand. Some defrosted berries from supermarket, add to a big chunk of tofu and a protein, low carb snack with fibre, very tasty. biggrin

Where do you find Tofu? I wouldn't even know where to look for it in Tesco!
