'Have you been working out?'
Heard it twice in as many days from people I'd not seen in a few weeks. Feels good!
Wait till you've been doing it a while and you'll get the steroid questions.Heard it twice in as many days from people I'd not seen in a few weeks. Feels good!
Dude in the pub on Friday night 'So mate, can you get me some steroids so I can be your size'. Although I don't mind so much I take it as a complement.
Or the other ones are 'person x says you are only bigger than me 'cos you take steroids' yada yada.
The strange thing is, I'm a little above average but I'm not big like a lot of folk in my gym.
People in the workplace/pub say the most random things when it comes to training.

Just wondering (don't really know that much about 5x5) but is it just to get you started and not for continuing training?
Once you are up to immediate you can still do 5x5. You can do it with light/heavy/medium days and learning more about workload and stuff.I used to swap in front squats for squats, and other things.

I have added a picture in the stats thread. Not really looking to get anything specific from this. I have the diet right. Spent last year getting leaner. I will probably add a fair chunk of muscle on, but it is my intention to do this with out "bulking". I want to stay lean in the process.
Long term I plan on running a marathon without doing traditional marathon training.
So we'll see what happens!

My mate text this morning about a 5k race on Sunday. Im very tempted to enter as its close to home.
but
Im new to running (only a few months)
Training so far has only been on a treadmill.
Was ill all last week = no training done
Not done a race for probably 20 years.
So if i man up and enter what should i do to train this week ?
I was thinking i best get outside for a run but how far and when ? Dont wanna do something wrong

LordGrover I did a google search for 'Pistonheads myprotein referral' and you were the first code I found. Enjoy whatever benefits you get from me putting your code in on my order..
Missed this. Thanks dude. Guessing it wasn't your first order as it's not showing on my account (unless your initials are DS and you placed the order on 28 Feb?).Not to worry, thanks for trying.

Both parts are particularly interesting to me. The first bit because it's what I would like to do. The second bit just for academic interest.Long term I plan on running a marathon without doing traditional marathon training.

Sorry mate, which two bits specifically? Always up for discussion, academic or otherwise. These are two areas I personally think are understood or interpreted wrong by many people.
I don't think you need to add the bulk if you are careful about your diet and training.
And running a marathon, as I see it is best served by being the most efficient in movement. But hey ho, we'll see if I am wrong and what I can learn along the way.

Only did it on friday, maybe it takes a few days.
Initials are GS.

Precisely these two aspects. I have no opinion as such and just find it interesting to see outcomes based on trial/error/practice. These are two areas I personally think are understood or interpreted wrong by many people.

I'm what they call a hard gainer (aka ectomorph) but have a little bit of fat that I want to get rid of but I don't want to reduce my (small) muscle size. I've been told to ease off with the cardio (I was over-doing it) and just stick to carb backloading so I guess I will have to be more strict (once the last bit of my birthday cake has been devoured ). I am continuing with weight lifting so hopefully the muscles will continue to grow (my protein intake has been improved since I started lifting). (I may experiment once I achieve the physique I want - resort to normal eating but ramp up the cardio to see if I can maintain). So what are your training/diet plans?
As for the marathon, I cba to run but I am just interested to see how you can apply endurance without putting in the time and effort others would.

Go out and run now, then again on Weds/Thurs then rest. Eat a 200g bar of choccy the night before, that's what Colin Jackson does.Training so far has only been on a treadmill.

Do you have any reading for carb back loading? Guessing it is exactly as it says it is and something I have suggested to clients but now with a specific name.I'm what they call a hard gainer (aka ectomorph) but have a little bit of fat that I want to get rid of but I don't want to reduce my (small) muscle size. Running is something that bores me to. Aerobic fitness is measured using a VO2max. So what I will be attempting to do is increase my VO2max without hours of endurance work. If I can get this to happen I may then attempt to train for a marathon in this way.
I know I've posted this before but the guru 'Kevin Skip Hill' dvd is available to watch for free below, top guy Skip and even better allowing his DVD to be watched for free.

Skip advocates carb cycling and achieves astonishing results with it but then you'd expect that with a guy who most put in the top 5 trainers in the world.
