Well, my way is more important than your way.

I started doing dips on the rings last week, I'd only been using them for pulls and chins before that.

They have made a massive difference to my bench. I'd been struggling to increase past 97.5kg 5x5 but three sessions involving dips and I nearly managed 100kg 5x5 tonight.

The diet is going well, I've lost 11lbs in 15 days and I've not lost any strength, and in some instances gained strength which seems strange seeing as I've been eating about 1800 calories a day. I'm starting to see some semblance of a 6-pack (well, the top of one!).

Nice going. I wonder if the reason for the increase in benching is due to the way you dip on the rings with your upper body leaning forwards thus training the lower part of the pectorals as well as the triceps and lats.

Well thats a theory I suppose...... wink

After training for a few years with weights now, I personally find growth and strength often happen in spirts as opposed to continuously.

Sometimes I train for a few months with no noticeable changes and then suddenly I start growing and getting stronger before going back to getting stuck.

I'm not suggesting everyone is like this but the body is a complex thing and growth/strength gains don't always appear to be predictable.

Thats my theory!

I usually try not to post on all threads otherwise it becomes the OC show and there are plenty of folk on here who know far more than I anyway!

Also I often find it interesting watching how threads play out with different suggestions!

I will take a look anyway!

You have no fear of that. Don't you know PH is the Hoofy Show?

laugh

I try not to be overbearing, I have strong views and know how to make this stuff work, I've trained enough people now but I also recognise there are tons of other ways to achieve a good outcome so I try not to preach too much!

Bah. That's what I like about PH. Lots of different ideas to consider. I'd still be lifting light if it wasn't for the likes of you. (Well, technically, I still am but I'm lifting heavier than I would have been!)

Very well, all things considered. I'm at a point where I've started introducing new exercises to work particular weak areas eg shoulders. I'm trying to split the routine up (am still doing stuff as a result of advice on this thread but need to think about what equipment is available as I train at a gym once a week and at home on another day. I need to have a proper think about it.

Good stuff! Sounds like when funds allow, it would make the most sense to start to put together a home gym?

Well, I do have lots of non-oly weights for dumbbells - I think I have about 120kg altogether. The issue for me is space, sadly, so no fancy squat rack.

As I see it
Pros of gym - can do interesting pull ups and horizontal rows on Smiths machine; crazy heavy weights that will keep me challenged for a long time(40kg dbs); machines for rehab work
Pros of home - clean floor for doing floor press to avoid shoulder problems biggrin

I think I will have to just write everything down in a spreadsheet and jiggle the routine about.

Quick update. I don't know what I'm doing right but I can see the leanness coming back. Am eating 1800 calories net. Don't even need to use a tape measure - I get up every day, look in the mirror (have a dresser by my bed so I know if I'm getting fat or not).

Only that week. biggrin Just roast chicken drum sticks this week. I buy pre-cooked stuff. I just alternate between Sainsbury's and Tesco for a bit of variety of food.

Exactly that - I'm asleep for 8 hours and don't do shakes/supplements. Rather than a cereal, I'll do a chicken piece. I do work from home, though.

I find planning does mean you don't eat the wrong thing or over-eat or under-eat. That MFP is really handy.
