Posts like the one above make you think hard! We are 14 weeks and this is our first.

My Wife's sickness has subsided and she seems more spritely. Seems to be 'showing' more by the day.

I can't quite believe I'm at this stage of my life already.

Due 20th December so my christmas and New Year will be a whole lot different to how they are normally.

I'm very much looking forward to being a Dad.

Good luck all!
Ditto - our first too and almost exactly the same stage with less sickness and a bump!(due 16th Dec)

Congratulations!

But don't be surprised if the bump goes away a little before coming back with a first baby.. There's usually a lot of bloating. I was "showing" at about 12 weeks, but then not from about 15-20 weeks before my bump started growing properly.

32 weeks here now. As twins generally appear around 36 weeks not long to go!

As prepared as we will ever be.

We experienced a still birth at 25 weeks last years, friends went through the same at 26 weeks (at the same time), and other friends had a death during planned delivery a fortnight later. These were all baby No 2 so still a shock. other friends had the neonatal death for there first child and had to return to the painted nursery, cot, buggy etc.

Heart breaking and the final straw. I think the stuff we bought prior to No 1 was kept at the grandparents house just in case.
When we were having twins we had the entire nursery kitted out for two with furniture, double buggy etc. We weren't exactly loaded so we had spread the cost a little and managed to get everything sorted not long before 30 weeks. We thought we were being sensible.

Then the unthinkable happens - we lost one of the twins at 34 weeks and due to a mess up with the c-section leading to my OH having an extended stay in hospital I had the chance to get home and sort stuff out - take down some furniture, rearrange the layout, return the buggy and so on. It was very very difficult for me; I can't even begin to imagine what it would have done to her given what we had just been through.

The approach of not having stuff in the house now feels entirely sensible to me.

Morning all.

Congratulations to all and continued good luck to those of us still waiting.

Slightly O/T but does anyone have a recommendation for a baby monitor?

What kind do you want? Sound/movement/video?
I've got the angelcare movement and sound because I'm a paranoid parent after a friends little boy died. Gives me peace of mind although I don't get to use it often as we mainly co-sleep at night. I didn't get video because I think I'd just stare at it!

I don't want video (too big brother for my liking).

Has anyone got a Quinny Moodd travel system?

It fits in the boot and seems solid but I'd rather pay less.

I use the AngelCare one as well, the heart monitor is awesome as you can just get on with things whilst it beebs away in the background.

Problem with video is that you end up compulsively checking it all the time, but you cant see if they're breathing so you end up going to check anyway...

We have a simple Motarola one, works great over a three storey house, with Seb on thr top floor.

We didn't go for bells and whistles, as we thought it would make us more paranoid, not less.

Bit 'fashiony', I thought the construction and materials looked a bit flimsy.

What did you opt for instead?

I went for the system that felt most solid, had largest diameter tubular frame and good materials - surprisingly a Mothercare Orb. Not the most compact but no problem for us...

And a lightweight Mclaren for pushchair duties.

Best tip I got was start with the best (safest) car seat you can afford and chose around that...

We went for the most basic monitor possible, and have only used it about 3 times. Just not really felt the need if I am honest.

Buy a monitor once you can get them to sleep wink

We has a £30 John Lewis special which was fine.

I assume you all bought the colour changing temperature egg thing, probably a more important thing to worry about then a lack of noise.

The angelcare has a thermometer in.

I'd also recommend looking into wraps for when pushchairs are too cumbersome, love mine for short trips and around the house.
