when I moved to Asia in 92, I was 24 and weighed 75kg, when I got married in 95 I was 80kg. As i got into my 40's I was 90kg.

I gave up smoking on june 25th last year I was 90kg. By september 7th, I was 101kg, by christmas I was 108kg. It was great fun getting there.. I ate, drank, ate and ate some more..

In march I got my head around it. got my bike out, cut the calories, gave up the regular booze.

yesterday I dropped below 100 for the first time since september, my target is... 90kg by june 25th.
How's it going????

If you go crazy and try to achieve too much, you'll run out of puff because you're either exercising to a level that is not sustainable or eating so little that you will break at some point and binge. Or what hobby dieters call "yoyo dieting".

You want to do something that is sustainable in the long term (think 20 years), not some quick fix that means that you're twice as fat as when you started out in 10 years' time.
Just got back from climbing, where I found that I am better than I was because I have less bulk to haul up the wall.

I think I'm hitting it at the right level in 1 kg per week ? I don't loose anything much at the weekend, and I tend to loose more in the midweek, so I know that when I hit my target weight, I'll be able to hold it by just being sensible. Which clearly I wasn't for 23 years.

I have had 3 serious attempts to loose weight in 1999, 2004, 2010, but I'm convinced that I overdid the exercise, and didn't understand my real intake levels. This time I've recognised that if I do no exercise and I eat 2000 calories I will put on weight. So it's a case of getting to the target, and then monitoring intake, exercise, and weight, and having a trigger point, where I take action if I go below or above a band. st I'm planning how to stay at my target plus or minus 2 kg either side, and I'm only 35% of the way there.

Actually it's a great application of an SPC run chart.

It's great you have a good grasp on diet now.

As for weight loss per week, well thats a very individual thing. For instance a man at 30% bodyfat will lose massively more weight than a man at 8% bodyfat who by all other measures is equal (training, diet, life style etc).

As long as you are comfortable with your progress in losing weight that is all that matters, if weight loss stalls or stops then consider diet and training again.

Yeah, climbing is easier when you're lighter!

Don't get too hung up on targets. It's one of those things where the more you push things, the harder it is to achieve. Just focus on the long term. I'm doing a similar thing but with less weight. 67.5kg clothed; goal is to reduce bodyfat.

I have a similar thread going on Scoobynet if anyone is interested,

I am down a stone after five/six weeks, was 17, now 16 ish.

I do weight myself daily but it is to keep it in mind that I am trying to lose weigh, I dont get despondent by a slight rise, liek this mornign 16.2 but then I did have 2 pints and a Chinese last night, I was fairly restrained but that is my weeks treat, no beer or crap tonight.

Not been a great week as had a tooth out so havent cycled to work but next week should be better, I dont intend to stop, I need to get to 14 stone or less, feel better at 16 than 17, god knows what its like to be 30 stone, must be hell.

Hi all

Completely take on board what you're saying about it being a long journey which is why my goals are structured in the way they are. At this stage exercise hasnt really been part of the process as I've had this chest infection. It's purely been down to changing my diet.
As of this morning I'm 13 stone 2 pounds. A loss of one stone two pounds in just under three weeks from cutting rubbish out of my diet and eating properly. Once I shift this infection ill throw some exercise into the equation. My original post was to highlight how much of a benefit just changing my diet had in such a short timescale.
Onwards and upwards.

I've not seen you for a while Obiwonkeyblokey, but I'm surprised you weigh as much as you did, unless you've packed on a stone in the last year or so. See you at a curry soon. hehe

Handily, every kilogram lost improves your lap time on track. thumbup

I've been climbing twice this week, avoided 12 pork pies, 100 samosas, 50 pastry or cake derivatives, sweets, and turkish delights. This is st that people bring in to celebrate their birthday, grading improvement, return from holiday, or the birth of puppies. I call it work place bullying. Just before I left today, some fker put 15 donuts about 12 foot from my desk. I'm not afraid to say, I picked up the tray, and moved them about 60 foot further away.

Evening meal tonight was a slice of homemade bread, white fish, tomatoes, onion and lettuce.

plus I've avoided the remains of buffets from 4 meetings in the office.

Down to 94.1KG today, so got a smug feeling at present, but am on holiday next week so no weigh in's until a week on Tuesday, when I get back to my mid week digs.

Nice work!

Nowt wrong with having one doughnut, though... or in fact, 10 doughnuts if you don't eat anything else that day...

Hi Mate, Ive alwys hovered in the mid to late 13 stone something. Ive eben banging on about getting down to about 12 for a while now and this recent chest infection and weight loss perid has given me a bit of impetus. I'm really going to crack on with it now and once I fell a bit fitter I will chuck some bike and running into the mix.

See you soon. I will look the same but with a less fat head!

10 donuts would surely be 5000 calories if not twice that ?

Well, I weighed myself this morning after a week of Beer, Cake, Crisps, take aways and meals out, a 2 cooked breakfast, but 2 games of squash, a game of badminton, a game of ping pong, an Hours canoeing on a flat lake, and I'm STILL 94.1 KG. Given that I had planned to loose nothing this week, I'm fairly happy.

Don't worry about it - if it's st food, it can sit there and you won't touch it. Right? biggrin

Indeed. More fking Cakes today, this time bulk purchased from asda. Think someone had a grade increase following a performance review.

Still 93.8 this morning, which I put down to Liver and Onions and Rice Yesterday. Just spend 2 hours on the old climbing wall, and bloody hell ! It's getting easier again. I'm like a fat mountain goat.

I'm trying to get down to about that weight! smile

After spending months of bulking whenever I get really lean, everything just feels so much easier and I also feel far more comfortable wearing clothes etc.

hehe

Someone offered me some biscuits and chocolates the other day. I looked at them, looked at the nutrition info. It was all "per 100g" and as I couldn't be bothered to work out how much two biscuits and 4 chocolates was, I didn't take any. Previously, I would have just devoured a few but it won't help my cutting on a non-cheat day!

I find a level of satisfaction ignoring the huge amounts of bad food in my company most days. I just take a look and say no thanks knowing I will be happy with my weight by not eating the junk, getting fat and then feeling guilty.
