Insanity Workout

Anyone tried to take on "The asylum" after doing the regular Insanity?
I thought about it as soon as I finished regular insanity but thought I wanted to get a bit more moneys worth out of it too, suppose I could have sold it on but I quite like the workouts. Have looked at it a couple of times since but with my seemingly constant string of injuries have decided against it as my fitness is going downhill and I think you need to be at month 2 level insanity before checking in to the asylum. It's pounding my knees. Being a swimmer for so long, my knees really aren't as tough as they should be. Was stood up all morning today and then having to walk up stairs was a bit painful.
Did recovery a day early today, arms and especially legs are well strained after doing the fit test on Monday (of which gains were very good!!!).
This is very rough while trying to retain 4-5 swim training sessions as well. Only 6 weeks + recovery week to go. At this rate ill either be superman or dead.

Just tried session 1 again and did a bit better - wont be long before I can do the first 15 minutes without any breaks.
Oddly the stretching is far worse for me as my muscles are tight
For those that fail - do you just rest and carry on or do you take it that you have had enough for that session and leave it?

Thinking about doing month 1 twice before going on to the second month. Will see how I feel when I get to the recovery week I guess.
Cardio recovery again today. Some of the moves I have to pull out of as my quads feel like they are going to explode!
Nah get on with month two, then if you fancy it do month 2 again at the end. I found month two more interesting with different moves etc - although being longer it was harder to get some of the workouts in.Cardio recovery again today. Rest and carry on. If I didn't it would be over pretty quickly!
This ^^^ pause the video, get most of my breath back in maybe 10-20 seconds, start again. It must be working. I've always been pretty fit, but the Insanity workouts are another level of effort all together. I'm nearly 2 weeks in. Just had an EKG done this morning on my heart (training exercise rather than a health requirement) and my resting heartrate was a 50bpm. I've had it down to 58 bpm before using a heartrate monitor, but that was a few years ago.

I got it for Christmas and still haven't dared. Doing an Insanity/P90X hybrid in prep. Asylum comes with a ladder. What could possibly go wrong?
Just for the benefit of others, when he says ladder he does not mean something you have to climb up. its more of a ground obstacle.RB Will said:

I was really struggling today, walked out of the room and back in during one of the breaks, and it smelt like a brewery from my sweat! So I'm not surprised I was struggling
Having said that, I actually don't think I could have done any better even if I didn't have my heavy weekend, pushed very hard, and got some good results I think. I think I have bad form in the low plan oblique, making it easier on myself than it should be, so I need to get that in check for next time.. Oh, and I actually managed some push-up jacks this time!

Finally got round to starting this on monday, so onto day 3 now.
Fit test results are as follows:
Didn't think I did very well, but looking at others results didn't do too bad. Had to take a few breaks as my calfs were on fire.
The morning after the fit test I was quite sore, walking the dog started my calfs off again.
As the day progressed though I was looking forward to day 1 after the fit test.
It went quite well but once again my calfs were stopping me.
Hopefully they will start to loosen off the more I do.

I had exactly the same issue with my calves. Don't worry, they get such a beasting that they quickly adapt and after about 4 or 5 days my calves stopped hurting.
I have to say that the Insanity stretches focus more on groin and hamstring flexibility than anything else, so I started adding in a calf stretch as well. Seems to have made a difference.
Ignore this egg sucking lesson if you wish:
Stand with one leg in front of the other, facing a wall or similar if you want the stability. Lean forwards, keeping the heel of the rear foot firmly down against the ground. You should feel the calf stretch nicely. If not, your legs are too close together.
There are other calf stretches, but that's worked best for me over the years.
