I'm now watching what I eat...no crisps, chocolate, pizza etc. Running two lots of 5km per week and getting the bike out again. Anything else a 36 year old can do to help lose the gut and love handles? Being a desk jockey doesn't help.

Try not to eat carbs and fats in the same meal and done eat processed food.
I'm doing bits of the Harcombe Diet along with running more regularly and it's working so far.

Going out of the office at lunchtime helps, if only to break up the sitting down. I was working on a fairly manky industrial estate, but I forced myself to walk the perimeter road twice every day.

Both my 19 year old daughter and I have lost a fair bit of weight with Slim Fast shakes.
She skipped out two meals a day and lost a load, she stopped and put a little back on, but has stayed a pretty healthy weight.
I've lost about a stone (c.13 to c.12), but I'm cheating and only miss out one meal.
To be honest, it really seems to work for me because it stops me getting hungry between meals and eating junk so much.
Had to move my belts in a notch and my suits fit much better now.
I wouldn't say I now sport a six pack (still more of a Party Seven!) but I'm certainly trimmer.
I do go to the gym a couple of times a week as well, but I was doing that before.
I'm sure someone will tell me I'll die from using this stuff, but it's worked well for us.

I'm doing similar, although more cycling than running - but add a couple of hours of badminton and squash every week as well.
I'm losing weight, but still have the beer gut and the fat face. Can't work out how to lose it all...

OP -- When you say watch what you eat, what do you really mean by that? You could cut out pizza, chocolate and the like and still put weight on if you're eating other less than ideal things and/or large quantities.

I'd agree with those that have recommended weights.
I'm generally quite slim but any fat I store goes to my gut. A couple of years ago I got fed up with my belly and decided to do something about it. So, I started eating well, began running and bought a cross trainer. A few months later I had lost weight but my fat percentage was still around 18% (not far off where I started) and I still kinda had the belly. Essentially, what seemed to be happening with cardio is that I was shrinking, but I was losing muscle mass in similar proportions to fat. I just looked like me at 90%. Quite frankly, it didn't work for me and I gave up on it and slipped back to poorer eating / insufficient exercise.
Fast forward a couple of years and I thought id give it another go. This time, however, having done some research, I'd decided to try lifting weights. My training focuses on lifting quite heavy weights (for my weight), concentrating on compound exercises. Combined with a slight calorie deficit, but eating well and taking in sufficient protein, I'm now down to around 13% body fat and my belly is gone. My understanding is that lifting heavy weights forces your body to consume energy almost constantly trying to repair itself, hence you burn fat. You also maintain muscle, so the weight lost is almost exclusively fat. I now do very very little cardio.
It's working for me, give it a go.
