You don't see fat lions or tigers! They "exercise" quite a lot and only eat proteins/grasses.
When did these superfit grass-eating lions and tigers evolve? I think I missed it.

Maybe he likes his Tiger beer too much. (Presumably, said beer is made from real Tigers if the Lion is drinking it.)

I've managed to loose my wine/beer gut and double chin completely over the past few months - waist size down from about 37'' to 33''. Weight from 12 stone to 10 stone with a flat stomach and no moobs - the latter helped by 40 press ups a day as part of the daily routine. 20 press ups in the morning only takes a minute - you just have to get on with it - same in the evening!

To do this I have cut out all alcohol this year and take regular fairly strenuous exercise by cycling hard at weekends (50 -70 miles or so) and occasional evenings. Coupled to reduced food portions and very little junk food the effect has exceeded all expectations in such a short time.

The slight downside is that I have become rather obsessive about the whole thing - constantly monitoring my weight, checking calories and fat in foods, feeling guilty about luxuries like chocolate etc so it's a little tedious at times. Also pints of ice cold lager and glasses of wine are seen as 'calorie threats' first and foremost so I'm less sociable now due to the risk of falling off the wagon.

Finally I've had to replace most of my clothes involving a lot of shopping which is bad enough in itself!

So it definitely can be done if anyone's thinking of having a serious go! As the first few pounds fall off without the booze it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy of chasing more good results from the exercise and then further improvement. In addition there is the benefit of feeling good all the time - particularly about not having that gut - so it's definitely worthwhile!

So good so far for me, certainly losing a few pounds and noticing jeans are much looser. Just bought a road bike too which will help mix the exercise up a bit.

I hit 40 this year. Always been fairly in shape, skinny until early thirties then put bit of strength/size on. In the last few years ive started carrying fat tho, never had it before. If i had to point to the things that caused it, theyre sitting on my arse in the evenings and eating crap in the evenings. Im fairly strong but my cv fitness is non existent these days. Went for a run a few mins ago (hate running with a passion, old crash injury makes it murder) and i thought i was going to have a heart attack.

Ran just over a mile in ten or eleven mins (pitiful, eh?) and i was utterly, utterly shagged. I could have walked it carrying half my bodyweight, no probs, but running slays me.

Anyway, Vince throwing his hat in the ring and officially saying: "i am unfit". I'm around 12/7 atm and would like to be 12.

My default suggestion of a kettlebell biggrin

Great bit of kit for cardio in the living room, check the 300 rep circuits in the training wiki.

You could hit 12 in 4-6 weeks without too much issue (8 at a push) just by sorting a sensible diet. Of course, increased fitness as well might be a slightly different matter.

The key is mention of eating crap!

I'm certain that I can't run any further or any quicker (trashed knees/ankles, amongst other things), yet I reckon I could do at least as much, without even resorting to the Mumsnet 'chemical' diet biggrin

For the last two months I've been cycling to work with a mate of mine. It's about a 10 mile trip all round and we've been doing it maybe 3-4 times a week, sometimes less.

I've also started pretty much eating only home cooked meals. You know what's going in it if you cooked it and that has potentially been one of the biggest things so far I think that has changed. I used to eat processed/pre-packaged foods all the time, I bet even the ones that are "healthy" aren't great..

But all in all, after 2 months I've lost about a stone and a half. We've just added the gym to our regime and hopefully that will help out even more.
