You might be eating to reflect the increase in work.

It is well-worth keeping a food diary or using the likes of MyFitnessPal to log food.

Thanks for the views so far.

I did play badminton until I changed jobs a year or so ago, I'm trying to get that going again. Also, looking for a 2nd hand road bike so I can increase distances as doing the local lanes on the mtb is a bit boring.

re diet. trying to cut out all sweets, biscuits, chocs and cakes. I have a sweat tooth so this is hard. I'm 6' and just over 14st, got down to 13st 8 last year but went back up to 14st 8 at Xmas.

Typical day:

Breakie - 2 pieces of fruit
Lunch - Ham salad sandwich and low fat yoghurt
Snack @6pm - couple of dry jacobs cream crackers
Dinner - Meat and rice - maybe omlette and chips if I want a treat.
Snack @ 9pm - one or two jammy dodgers

I cannot recommend P90X enough. I'm 4 weeks in, lost a stone and feeling v.good. Requires dedication and a degree of existing fitness but very well worth it.

Out of interest, are you following the recipes/diet recommendations? IIRC that's part of the system, isn't it?

Not much veg in that meal plan. How are you making sure you are getting all of the vitamins and minerals you need?

Weights, swimming, running all good answers.
The best answer is whatever you enjoy and will continue to do.
Do a mix?

I reckon you could improve that diet without too much effort TBH, although you may need to man up a bit and resist the sweet tooth (but I sympathise, I have the same issue, amongst others).

Breakfast -- I'd change to porridge since it is likely to be more filling than the fruit and not much different, calorie wise.

Lunch -- I'd ditch the ham sarnie and have salad with white meat or fish.

Dinner -- Could be ok, could not. Personally, I'd be looking at veg/salad/stir-fry with the meat rather than rice or chips. Omelette would be better on it's own.

Snack -- Lose it! Apparently 80-odd calories a pop and don't serve any great purpose. 4 or 5 and you're eating the equivalent of a meal. You could eat a decent slug of healthy food for the equivalent calories, if you really wanted to.

Breakfast like a king, lunch like a lord and dinner like a pauper! This'll get your diet sorted!
Porridge for starters is prime!

However, unless you're doing a fair degree of exercise pretty regularly, that's a third to a half of the probable aiming point & definite starting point for most. It doesn't leave much scope for the rest of the day for many people & ultimately this is a balancing act if you aren't hammering the gym/bike/pavement etc.

Best advice yet, although I believe a heavy weights routine combined with some cardio to keep ur heart healthy is best, the most important thing is to do something you enjoy which u will continue in years to come. Same for your diet, don't kill yourself just try and stick to a high protein low carb diet with plenty of fruit and veg, with a few small treats here and there. Take the long term approach enjoy it and the results will come.

Having a sweet tooth doesn't mean you have to give up sweet things.

I substitute the sweets or cakes with cottage cheese & pineapple when I need a quick snack.

For breakfast, I break up some oatcakes, cut a banana up, sprinkle some blueberries, cinnamon, almonds, a large dollop of Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey. Tastes absultely great and packed with good vitamins, proteins and healthy fats. It's certainly more interesting than the average porridge for breakfast.

Trying to lose fat with exercise is all good but your efforts will be wasted if you don't eat right and fuel your body with the right foods.

I read a book about 2 months ago called Sweet Poison. It had an impact on me so I've cut sugar out of my diet as much as possible.
I was 93kg but now around 89kg

I've not had any significant change to my exercising or diet sugar aside so for me this is working.

Weights as a way of burning fat has to be one of the most hilarious techniques ever.
And this is possibly the most under-informed post on PH, ever.
Using weights is the way I advise folk to lose weight. I've helped PH'ers over the years with weight loss using weights.

I got really fat a long time back after losing my way and was shown how to do it by some really knowledgeable folk and it all started there.

Weights & cardio work with a good diet equals massive and rapid weight loss.

mmm interesting reading, but I'm confused.
How come when after joing my local gym, Fitness Last, and specifying on my induction that I wanted to lose weight did the chap just stick me on cardio machines, and never even introduced me to the weights ?

Shall I ask for my money back ?

You could try, but you'll not likely succeed. Fitness First and other lifestyle gyms often have PTs with minimal training and experience. You may strike lucky and get a good one, but you'll have a better chance winning the lottery.
Look at programs like BFFM. Ignore the marketing bluster - he has to do it to get 'merkans interested. There's no shortcut or miracle to lose your fat in 4 weeks; just solid, proven method(s). Eat properly, lift weights, some cardio and plenty of good rest.
Simple, not easy.
