P90X - Bring It!!
Discussion
Following on from reading this thread, Mrs D and I have decided to Bring It and give P90X a go.
There seems to be a number of different approaches to following the nutrition to the letter or matching the calorie count with your own diet. Really looking for advice on this as time is somewhat limited and some of the "official" diet requirements look a bit elaborate (for want of a better word).
Any advice gratefully received as we're really looking forward to getting back some long-lost fitness and shape and this seems to be ideal to fit into our lives (without resorting to going to the gym, which I've never enjoyed).
DP.

As I've said elsewhere, it only works if you don't stick it on the DVD shelf and let it collect dust which is a destiny for most fitness DVDs! As for the diet, I can't see why you can't substitute theirs with your own providing you can guarantee you're matching their calorie and macronutrient requirements. If you don't know how to accurately establish calories of various foods, you're very likely going to underestimate things and end up not achieving the results you hope for.
Thank you for the reply - we're going to endeavour to follow the nutrition plan as we're both determined to see results and Mrs D is making preparations as we speak to get everything sorted....
The other question is regards to recovery shakes etc. My sister is a die-hard fitness bod and says that whey proteins etc are not needed and that diet and water intake are far more important but P90X forums seem big on recovery formulas etc.
Sorry for the questions but at 40, I've decided that I need to get in some sort of shape before it's too late...

I don't take any supplements and train every day. Am 40 and leaner/more muscular than I've ever been (or skinny by comparison to most but I'm happy with the direction my body's taken). The other question is regards to recovery shakes etc. My sister is a die-hard fitness bod and says that whey proteins etc are not needed and that diet and water intake are far more important but P90X forums seem big on recovery formulas etc.

In terms of the recovery shakes, a lot of the advice out there suggested a milkshake was almost as good, as it had the right balance of proteins and carbohydrates, so when I did it I was simply having a glass of nesquik made with skimmed milk. The other question is regards to recovery shakes etc. My sister is a die-hard fitness bod and says that whey proteins etc are not needed and that diet and water intake are far more important but P90X forums seem big on recovery formulas etc.

Do not Google at work!!
Your search - Maren Beautte - did not match any documents.
Suggestions:
Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
Try different keywords.
Try more general keywords.
Try fewer keywords.
(I only have Google on "strict" because if I'm googling with visitors present, people are quick to judge if a racey site is listed... you know what

Aged 50, recent x smoker, 3.5st overweight, never excercised. Is this program for me?
I caught an infomercial on the tv today, which started me searching for more, typically the answer was on PH as ever. I've read the first few and last pages of this thread, but not seen much on "how fit you have to be to start" Worried that this may be out of my league.
I have a history of buying excercise equipment then not using it. i.e I bought an iron gym door bar, tried one pull up, failed and have since used it once more as a "Klingon Bat'Leth" at a fancy dress party

It's quite intense so dunno how far you'll get. I do hear of people doing similar DVD routines and lasting 10 minutes. Er... before giving up rather than keeling over. Do you do any exercise eg walking? If not, then start walking then try sets of squat thrusts and push ups to see how you cope. I'm no expert, mind. That's just my approach rather than going all in and killing myself then quitting.

The programme includes a fitness guide that you should do before starting. This asks you to do certain routines and gives you a range of what you need to be able to achieve to be considered fit enough to progress. Most of these are quite doable - even if difficult.
There's a bonus DVD that contains two extra workouts which I used for about three weeks to get up to the required fitness level.
Beyond that, it's really down to you.
All I can say is that when I started, I could hardly do any of the routines - 3 or 4 push ups and that was it. But then, if I could have done them, then I wouldn't have really needed to do the programme.

Thanks guy's. I've done a little research and think I will start with the Insanity DVD's as aparently its more aerobic based, which is what I need for fat loss. Then sell it on ebay for £20 less than I paid new, and buy P90X. Will let you know how I get on.
Go for it. Stick with it and good luck!Would suggest you invest in a heart monitor and research the various zones you need to be in. I don't wish to appear rude but 3.5 stones is a fair bit of excess baggage so keeping an eye on the ticker in the early stages will pay dividends later on.

I used the 10 minute workout programme that the same company do to get me in to a routine and used to the various exercises, once I felt them getting easier I then progressed to P90x!I caught an infomercial on the tv today, which started me searching for more, typically the answer was on PH as ever. It's a tough workout programme but very rewarding, enjoy!
