Most of the problem is in the genes, although quite a bit spills over the waistband too.

A few of the Santander girls at the GP today were very plain looking (not fat tho) definitely letting the country down when compared to Spain and Korea biggrin
A lot better than most of the young woman (my age group) around here. At least they didn't need a wide angle lens to fit them in. I'm not fit, but neither do I sit and eat pasties, chocolate and god knows what else all day. The young woman also seem to forget that eating as much as a male is not good, because we need about the same number of calories at idle as they do at full load...

I think at lot of people no longer have pride in their general appearance. Take my best pal as an example. When we were 16-21 we used to play football in the same team, work out at the gym etc and he was a good looking lad with a good physique. Then, after getting cosy with his missus, he slowly stopped sports/gym and started doing take-outs every night and just dossing around.

They got engaged when they were 26 and married a year later and are now both fat. And I mean size 38/40" waist fat for him now and she must have gone from a size 10/12 to a 16/18. And the majorly crying shame for my mate is that even though his missus has gotten fat she hasn't put any of the weight on in her chest, giving her a very ungainly figure. I really don't know how they can look at each other and not regret what they've both done to themselves.

At uni, 95% of my mates are thin, I don't mean normal, I mean 6foot and 11 stone thin. Barely anyone in my year group is properly fat, I think they are all anorexic.

But the normal population seems to be getting obviously fatter, even over my lifetime, just 22 years.
It seems socially acceptable to be fat now for some reason, hopefully the norm will change...
But then it's free will (if it exists) if you want to be fat be fat, who is anyone to tell you otherwise, agency is a fundamental right.
Is it not because they are all taking recreational drugs and eating pot noodles?
When I went to uni (early 90s) most of the blokes got thinner and the girls got fatter.

The blokes stopped eating because their mum didn't put food in front of them, and the girls started eating junk because their mums didn't stop them. At least that was my reading at the time. I was 13 stone when I arrived and fluctuated from 11.5 to 13 (after the holidays!) during my course.

There was a bunch of about half a dozen girls in my bit of halls in the first year who were genuinely obsessed with Haagen Dazs (sp?) ice cream. Funnily enough they all put on a couple of stone over the year.

But this does at least bring a bit of 'peace of mind' - at least shes not going to run off with anyone else now is she?!

Exactly. What people think of as "healthy" is skewed by being surrounded by lots of "normal" (read: overweight) people.

If someone is 6ft and anorexic, at 11stone they're not very good at being anorexic hehe I'm that height and usually weigh less that that, eat a lot and run a lot. It's normal. What's not normal is sitting down all day in front of a computer, followed by sitting in front of the TV in the evening. Humans aren't evolved for that hehe

I went to a public swimming pool today. Most of the women/mums looked fairly slim, but the majority of blokes had a stone or five to spare.
That's because the fat birds stay at home.

When you next go to the supermarket, have a look in women's shopping carts. Creamcakes, never seen a bloke buy one let alone a whole pack, chocolate bars and ready meals. All junk and empty calories. Wider the rear end, the more crap they buy.

Have a peep at their shopping basket next time, it's true.

I wish I made that comment in jest, but it's true. We have three of them in our office and they all talk about counting calories, but haven't lost a pound between them in the year I've worked here. It's nothing more than poor self control, or poor self esteem. I can say that because I'm at the other end of the spectrum in that I want to put on weight, but lack the willpower. Nobody's fault but my own

The two fatties in our office graze all day on "healthy" snack a jacks, that stupid mail order stuff and knock back several cans of diet whatever and then wonder why they're still not losing weight.

I used to have a manager the size of a short whale who used to bemoan the fact that she didn't lose weight despite eating only fruit all day.

She used to bring a carrier bag into which you couldn't possibly have crammed more fruit every day, and eat the lot. Apparently "natural" sugar was different.

I like "not from concentrate" fruit juice cartons, but they have an amazing amount of calories in unfortunately. Still, at least it's not got fat in.

No, just a shed load of sugar... Which, is converted into fat, because they drink FAR too much of it... Its not uncommon to see the local sixth formers drink a cartoon full on the way back from the local supermarket. If i remember correctly, 1L of it contains something like 200% of the daily recommended allowance of sugar - it might even be more.
