I'm just after a bit of reassurance really.

I went to the GP about 2 months ago with a dodgy shoulder and was referred to the physio. I mentioned, as a side issue, that my BP can sometimes be a little high (hovers around 130-140/80). It normalises if I'm totally chilled out though.

Anyway, I had a full blood count and my platelet count came back at around 130 (iirc). I had a repeat test and it was 95 and another repeat last week which has come back at 76.

It was also noted that although I was pretty fit my cholesterol was in the upper range so I made some quite big changes to my diet and cut back alcohol by a significant amount.

At my last consulation I did mention to the GP that I was officially worried about the obvious blood cancer implications but he reassured me that all my other values were within normal so not to worry.

I'm ringing in the morning to request a telephone consultation to discuss things but just wondered if anyone had any experience with this.

For info I'm 35, 6'4", 100kg, pretty fit I'd say, run regularly (10k+), play tennis and try to eat non processed food as much as possible and only drink on the weekends. Don't smoke.

I'm going to fooking die aren't I (don't answer that, I already know the answer).

Firstly your blood pressure is Not high!!
My wife has the same platelet issues as yourself, her blood tests since 2001 have shown
levels between 80 and 130 Has had every test available and has no other real issues.
She is super fit and has a resting Pulse of 42bpm.
Importantly in these situations she Heals really Quickly if hurt or cut etc which shows
her platelets are doing what they are designed for.
Serious platelet problems would show count of 40 or less.
Having seen some of the most eminent consultants the current view is that the body reabsorbs the platelets rather to quickly hence the low count.
On cholesterol, this test can adversely affected by what you eat the previous day so care
is needed.

Mark.

Cheers Mark, reassuring. See what the gp says tomorrow.

Feel absolutely fine btw and never had any issues with bleeding or not healing up.

Took my bp again and it's down to 128/72 which is no worry. I also have a low resting heart rate, low 50's and would consider myself fairly fit.
