On Monday evening, the family headed to our local scout camp, where the eldest Cjelli offspring was receiving some badges or other for all the things beavers/cubs/scouts do. Most activities seem to involve an amount of colouring in.

Needless to say, with the summer going the way it has been, it was a virtual washout and I found myself standing in my shorts, under an umbrella, acting as some sort of drive-thru buffet for anything that happened to be flying past.

Two days later, and I wake up feeling like I took part in some form of hybrid running race/drinking competition. From the waist down hurts/aches and my already limited energy reserves have deserted me completely.

Check out my lower legs, and turns out I've got a number of bites of indeterminate origin. In particular, one on each shin seems to have turned a bit nasty, with an amount of weeping pus from one, and a largish red, warm and painful area around both of them.

Would you say I have an allergic reaction or have I become the victim of some form of infection? I took an anti histamine tablet this morning, and would say this stopped some of the itching for a while.

Pictures may become available dependant on the quality of advice received.

Hopefully not Lyme Disease but if you suspect it don't mess about and get straight down the Docs and insist on tests and antibiotics if necessary.

Don't think this is that, but that bullseye rash does look reminiscent of something I had a year or two ago. Anyway, been to the doctors who put me on Augmentin(?), some sort of anti biotic.

Will try and dig out the photo of the bullseye when I've got more time.

Got bitten by a horsefly in SW London of all places a couple of years ago and ended up with Cellulitis so bad I could barely walk. Doc said it was serious and sent me to hospital.

Was put on anti-biotics so heavy that for the first time in my nearly 50 years on this planet I had an allergic reaction. Now can't take them.

All from a fly bite in the UK and to think I have spent ages in the tropics with never a problem.

Good luck and get it seen to.

From my googling, I reckon a bit of cellulitis is where I'm at. The muscles around my shins burn when used, and the red inflamed area is quite painful to the touch. Here's hoping I've caught it in good time with these tablets.

When we first moved to the Philippines two years ago my daughter got some horrendous reactions to mosquito bites, she was covered in them, and like yours, they often became infected, more like some sort of open sore.

She was actually born there but grew up in England.

Antihistamine seemed to make a good difference.

You may well need antibiotics. My husband keeps getting bitten by something in our garden, esp down the far end where the plants are mainly weeds and a small tree. It starts off as red swelling which spreads and he develops cellultis. He usually ends being put on 2 types of antibiotics (starts with one type but the redness continues to spread so he gets px a 2nd lot) with the threat of i/v antibiotics should he not respond, so far he has not needed that. He also takes antihistimines.

They can be sore/ painful and cause aching around the area plus the area bbitten becomes sensitive to the touch. I have not been bitten, yet I do spend time in the garden aswell.

This affects both my daughter and I, though oddly not my son and my wife.

Something in the grass bites us - had it in France too, and my father-in-law says it is a type if insect that lays eggs in said bite. He referred to it as 'auta' or something, but I haven't been able to ascertain what it may translate to.

Apparently, you scratch the head of the bite off to remove the eggs and stop the swelling and pus spreading.

It's bloody nasty.

Horsefly bites are nasty. I once splatted one which was biting my hand on the opening day of the fishing season, and I still had an itchy lump there a year later.
