I was considering much longer times eg 2 hour runs.

I have never run for so long, though I have exercised for that period (not constant).

If you're contemplating long runs you should consider water by 40 mins and glucose at about 1.5 hrs.

I don't know whether it was this thread or not but someone mentioned that olympic athletes that did LSD runs also did HIIT to improve their sprinting?

Not really, HIIT is just interval training to boost sprint speed. Been around for hundreds of years before the HIIT promoters grabbed it and vaunted its usefulness for weightloss. Of course that would be a much toned down version. smile

The other thread. biggrin

And no, I'm staying away from long distance stuff. If I could train for 1 minute and eat 20 bags of crisps a day, I'd do that. As it isn't possible, HIIT is where I'm drawn.

Let's face it, I'd rather have a physique like Bolt than Farah.

Yep Farahs' is a typical middle distance physique.More total cals burned than HIIT could ever manage, but it's gruelling and you end up looking like a cadaver. smile

Yeah... I could probably do that just sitting still and staying away from the kitchen. hehe
