I was always told to little and often hydration - so sips of water to keep yourself hydrated, but not to gulp loads down as it has the reverse effect. Then try soup. A bit of food that is easy to digest and that you can get some slower release energy from, but agan, not too much and build up. Then try adding some dry bread with the soup, to bulk up the soup and to ensure that it doesnt go straight through you. Once you have built a relatively normal meal time, you can start going onto other foods - but dont jump straight into a steak! A friend did this after an endurance trek / camping thing - lets just say that the body isnt used to it and it usually comes out pretty quickly....

Ok first things first. You are an employee, so book off some holiday. You sound like you need it. Otherwise frankly I think you will collapse and take months to recover, so better to head that off before it happens. It sounds to me like you are too stressed to eat - yes it is common, plenty of people lose weight when stressed.

Secondly drink some tomatoe soup. Ideally break up some bread and soak it in there too. This should be soft on a sore stomach.

Can you not try a cup of soup. If it gets that you can't even do that or toast they will have to put you on a drip or it gets rather serious consequences eventually.

What type of work do you do Hora?

I've fasted before and gone long periods without food and it's true you have to force youself to eat after a few days let alone a week, the normal apettite does go, your body is in emergency self preservation mode. You will start to make bad judgments and feel very unwell soon, which is only going to make your work life more stressfull, it's a destructive negative feedback cycle, get out of it now!

Get some of your favourite soup down your neck, build it up slowly. If this job is going tits up anyway cut yourself loose, take a few days off and look for something else. Nothing is worth killing yourself for (cars and women aside)

A few years ago I had a proper bout of flu, the type that you couldn't get off the sofa and run if the room was on fire type flu. I couldn't eat anything for 4 days, then on the 5th I started to force myself to nibble on a farleys rusk. It was hard work but the only thing I could cope with. Gradually ate more rusk over the next few days until I started to feel I could eat a bit more, then a bit more.

I was lucky that mine was caused by flu, but if it was caused by stress that was not going away then I guess it could have been a whole different game.

When you stop eating due to stress it is pschycological as well as physical. I would try stopping worrying about food, do something active to see if it triggers you to feel hungry. Or do something like stand next to a hot dog stand/burger van. The smell should trigger something.

Also, if you can drink fluids ok then get some drinks from the chemist such as Complan. My old granny never wanted to eat but she would drink this sort of stuff which had enough good stuff in it to stop her starving.

Chicken soup it is, I'll stick it in a cup thus combining two lines of advice. Ta guys.

I work in sales, my competitors are chasing me but for the last year my 'record' has been woeful due to the downturn. This worries me that I've become worthless. A self-feeding cycle of depression(?).

Are you making your sales targets?

CAN you take a week or two off, right now, to recharge. Going back to it full of beans will make more difference than staying there feeling s**t IMHO.

ETA - Are you afraid to take time off in case you don't want to go back?

Ok work is going tits up. Its been a real slog for quite a while and I've not taken a holiday in two years.

I had the chesty/cough that was going round two weeks ago but on Saturday I lost my appetite. Totally lost it. I was hungry, I had hunger pangs but I couldn't even face food. As a consequence I've not eaten anything at all since then.

The Docs prescribed antibiotics as she said I have a viral infection.I'm dubious and think its stress. Pure stress?

If I move to an area of sudden cold I violently shake for a while or burst into intense sweats.

I fear not working, being unemployed. (I'm an employee).

I don't want to be damaging myself but surely not eating for so long isn't a bloody good thing.

Help.
I think that's the root of your problem..sounds pyschological to me,...is your job under threat?...

You need a holiday now!..If short on funds get away for four or five days and kip in a tent, the change will do you a world of good, but most importantly EAT something, even a tin of soup.

And don't be afraid to TALK to someone....anyone, even on here....never bottle your negative thoughts up, it's never a good thing to do.

Good luck........smile

I'd be careful attempting to self diagnose anything, see a pro, depression, stress and anxiety are different things.

Sounds to me like you've lost your mo jo and need a new challenge, i don't know much about sales but i'm guessing it isn't easier if you look half starved and don't believe in youself and your products, i'd always buy from the chilled fat jolly guy rather than the ill looking, distracted, tense and hyper guy.

Soup and few days off with the kids, gather yourself.

Seriously time to drop caffeine, if you're stressed and not eating, caffeine will fk you up! I know that one from bitter experience, thought I was actually having a heart attack!

Tell me something. Maybe its obvious? but after 7yrs in the same place I've kinda become institutionalised and as we downsized and downsized I've become worried that this is as good as it gets and the rest of life is now downhill.

Happened to me back in 2002, Work plummeting down-hill, so I needed a real shake. I volunteered to go on a Nigerian posting to get me RIGHT out of my comfort zone. It worked, it was hard, it was stressful, it was AMAZING. I saw people keep a smile on their faces as they faced unbelievable daily challenges, unlike us Brits who winge and whine at everything. It was a good move for me.

Maybe you need to bite the bullet.
