Hello folks I'm in the process of setting up a gym. It's being kitted out with the usual suspects free weights, machines, cardio equipment etc but I'm looking for different ideas.
I know a few of you in the past have put up links for strength/ conditioning equipment.
I've brought a double grappler smile, isometric rings smile, a feck off straight chin bar for chin presses. Anything else you can think off.
Cheers

One thing it's worth thinking about - what quality is the cardio kit you're buying / leasing?

Lots of gyms seem to be set up with Technogym equipment, which is awful stuff, especially their cross trainers.

My gym has a load of nearly new Life kit, which is massively better.

The kind of thing would make or break a gym for me.

I've gone for precor at the moment, it's not going to be a big set up 50 members at best.

Not being funny, but how are you not going to blow a stack of money for no return on those figures?

That's only part of the gym

I love interesting kit. All that strongman kit above is ace. Would be great if my gym got a log.
Had an outdoor day last week where we had lots of stuff. My favourite were the battleropes, the prowler, the heavy duty bag and the hydro stuff. Hydro bags filled with some water and packed with air.
I also liked the Bulgarian bag (gonna buy my own) and power clubs.
I like that glute ham machine.
I suppose you'll have a hammer and tire? Or a mace?
A bungee rope?

BMW has a floor thing with straps, that you can use to push/jump against. That looked good.

Kettlebells across the weight range? Multiples of them?

My gym uses precor. Always working the only things that fail are the TV's on them!

Would love ropes but I'm going struggle with floor space. I'm liking the bear crawl equipment

Have you got a private car park or grass area outside? Sling a rope around a lamppost etc etc?

Just be careful with this I set a caveman PT session up on a grass area on Plymouth Hoe, the council give me a grilling after.

I'd have a beaverfit cage for 5k with some add ons so clients can crack on with squats, dips and bench in that area, UK Pro suspension cables over TRX, I'd have some plyometric boxes, a few kettlebells, powerbags from Escape fitness (get core bags over power bags) same but less money.

Then I'd run st loads of classes.

I'd use/love (had some/will get some of the below but sadly will never be able to afford all) with a bias towards training for boxing/mma though golf, tennis and other sports would potentially benefit too

Grappler/landmine - mine is a two bar set up - though there's an interesting twist (pardon the pun) with the Powermax 360 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVJijVd9HjM )

Bulgarian Bag - though I'd like a range. I went for a 37lb bag which is OK for most things but a bit tough for some core things like 'Round The Worlds', great for grip/endurance though. It replaced my 20Kg Powerbag which wasn't as good/versatile ( http://www.suples.com/bulgarian-bag/ )

Battling Ropes and anchor point - really good clip of Vitor Belfort using them here ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkHHZFXF1PM )

Climbing ropes - if space is limited and you are loaded(!) you could try one of the rope machines also, confusingly, called a grappler ( http://www.gymequipment.uk.net/ )

A prowler or sled and some space to push and pull it.

Tyres to lift/flip and hit with hammers and/or bats.

I'm so jealous I'm sat her plotting (futilely) how to ditch my job and do this!

The powermax i'd have to have on a go on one to make a comment have you used one Lost?

The bulgarian bag why don't tie some ropes or slings on your power bag, you'd most probably be able to use it fairly similar.

I use tug of war ropes for my caveman PT circuits.

I bought 2 grapplers at the last gym I worked and kept having a few dramas, so bought a similar machine from CV fitness last year and so far really good 500 quid cheaper as well.

No never used a Powermax but like the look of the angles it allows the boxer to use in the training clip, like for hooks/rotation - don't know what resistance it offers though.

Re the Bulgarian Bag, I suppose you could get some similar exercises out of it with ropes but it would seem a bit 'Jerry built' to me - esp. if I did it! Otherwise not only is it a really nicely made bit of kit but because of the shape and weight distribution much tougher to use than a Powerbag, esp. if you hold with the leather handles stitched on to the sides. I saw a video of the USA wrestling team doing a workout and even they had to keep dropping it and shaking their arms out. I EBayed the Powerbag as it just seemed unnecessary.

One thing I really like is the long grey straps for presses and throws from behind the back. It starts way down low, rubs along the back (mine is very thick and curved so seems to touch all the way up) and then needs quite a bit of force to get it airborne. Sometimes I stop with a press but I love doing it like a tethered throw where the bag leaves your control like a med ball or something but then comes back and can be re-gripped/reset for another rep.

After using the BBag last week I am a convert. Love it. It does destroy the grip.

Good to hear - I remember someone on a different thread a year or so ago saying it was a gimmick etc. No way, it is very well designed, very well made and very versatile. I love it and really need to get it out doors again for some circuits. Could be dragged, pulled, thrown, lifted, carried, spun etc. - a really good cardio session in the offing.

Yep hear what you're saying its designed for a purpose, used to use sand bags in the early 90s mainly for weighted carry and drags but it was the early power bag I suppose.

Interesting... I've used a bag of gravel in the past for grip training, swinging, throwing and body conditioning (of the self-flagellation kind ie martial arts training).
