Some fantastic BBC reporting....

"It felt like I was on drugs. I was shaking and I got angry. It also had an effect on my girlfriend who didn't want to be around me when a had taken it."

Although he still takes protein and creatine gym supplements he says he has cut down from seven to four shakes a day.

Some of these supliments, especially the pre-work out and diet bars can have very high levels of caffine in them in adddition to other chemicals.
Caffine is a drug, a stimulant, so yes he did feel like he was on drugs. banghead <ETA>I don't know if his had caffine in.</ETA>
A bit misleading of the BBC to use this quote, with typo, under a heading mentioning only protein.
I've had too much Red Bull before and know what effect it has on me, so I dont drink that much of it. If it was causing him and his girlfriend that much of a problem, he should have stopped/cut down before it was a problem.
People should read the lables, follow guidlines, and understand what they're consuming, IMO that goes for all foods not just the supliments.
Eating 7 boxes of chocolates a day would make me ill, should I cut down to 4 boxes?

Radio 1 seemed to be giving this a bit of coverage in their "news" today.

Very cringeworthy.

Seems to be a lot of hating on Protein shakes at the moment by the media. Very strange.

7 shakes a day? Does he not eat real food?

People shouldn't completely depend on supplements. There's nothing nicer than a nice steak or grilled fish for your real protein.

I can't imagine what his toilet is like downing 7 shakes a day....

Anyone else find this funny?

They interview some pencil neck kid who doesn't know which way is up but is quite happy to play up to get interviewed.

That's quality reporting right there!

If protein can do this to a normal mild mannered civilian I'd hate to see what the serious stuff could do!

I swear the BBC is just run by fatties trying to convince themselves they are the ones leading the healthy lifestyle by sitting at a desk consuming pies.

There seems to be a real boom in people doing exercise around the country. I don't know if it's the Olympics or Tour de France or mid life crisis renaissance men taking up sport instead of buying Porsches.

Perhaps these 'anything to do with health might be bad' is a response to that.

It's "man bites dog" though, isn't it? "Healthy diet is good for you" isn't news.

I know some people like this, it's the weight training guys, not athletic running around types though. It seems they have reduced eating to simply getting fuel for training and it's no longer a social experience for them. One guy I know has little scales he uses to weigh his food when he's out and about. hehe

Can't find anything on this? But a couple of months ago I was shopping in the Chesterfield branch of Tesco with my two 7 year olds. The skinny kid on the checkout (looks similar to the photo, so could be him?) asked who the protein bars were for (wth - for the twins? durr...) and then lectured me about what I should be buying & eating. Said he was at college studying sports science. Looked like he'd have struggled to lift the tub of protein off the belt...

biggrin In fairness to him, he is just displaying a passion for what he's into.

Mind you, it's one reason I prefer to train in the privacy of my own home. Besides, nobody laughs when I face-plant a planche.

Yeah but he's lucky I hadn't eaten one of the bars or I might have come out in "Protein Rage" Tm. Or gone green and ripped my shirt if I'd been on Diddley's pea protein...

hehe So THAT's the reason why he's going for Pea Protein. Suddenly, it all becomes clear.

No need to get angry. Here's a lovely piano solo to help you relax: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rccD1EWenio&fea...
