Finally, someone's risked their own health to prove it:

A calorie deficit diet with nothing but fast food would be an unhealthy way of losing weight but there's no reason it wouldn't work, it's basically a movie stating the obvious I'd have thought?

Wasn't there a professor who did this a few years back? Only ate Maccy D's.

I'll have a look and see if I can find it.

How can it be possible though when a happy meal is 1000 calories?!

Yes - but everyone thinks "if I eat healthy I will lose weight/eating MaccyDs makes me fat".

And it may not be as unhealthy for you as you think.

He doesn't appear to get unhealthy... depends if you define healthy as being slim or having good health markers. Sadly, 1hr44!

It's all the sodium and salt that puts me off smile

This is the American professor that did it, 28lbs in 2 months

Yep... and yes, I know. (See earlier reply.)

Edit: tbh, that thing about salt... I know it's not scientific but I know plenty of people well into their senior years (ie beyond an age I want to be alive) who pour on salt like it's sauce. So I'm starting to doubt that salt is that bad for you. That said, it apparently causes you to retain water, so if you want to look good, then keep an eye on salt levels!

It's very unhealthy, Regiment is right. If you ate very small meals you might be able to lose weight - it's entirely possible. What you wouldn't see however is the damage to your internal organs/bones caused by lack of essential minerals and vitamins and the slow clogging of your arteries as lumps of fat gather on the artery walls..leading to heart disease and God knows what.

There's a difference between losing weight and being healthy.

When you die of being underweight - called starvation! - you die of organ failure, not lack of body mass. Go figure... wink

The premise of super size me was that he had to eat a full meal 3 times per day. At over 1000 cals a pop that's going to cause weight gain for anyone.

Indeed. That's why I don't hold much regard for Supersize Me. He basically accepted supersized meals whenever he could and ate a hefty meal, anyway, at every sitting. If he'd done that at my local vegetarian restaurant, he'd have had similar results.

I'll just pop this here... http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive...

Yes, Mercola is an 'alternative physician'; and you can read a wiki on how controversial he is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Mercola ; and he does, of course, sell salt that's good for you(!); but have a read anyway, see what you think. I haven't made my mind up, but there's no harm looking at an alternative viewpoint.
