Just thought i'd share this story with you...

A SUPER-SLIMMER from Burnley is half the man he was after losing an astonishing 11 stone in weight.

Ashley Kelly (22) tipped the scales at more than 25 stone before he started on the Lighter Life diet in February. Dedicated dieter Ashley stuck to eating a stomach-rumbling 500 calories a day to shed the pounds.

Over the past seven months he has lost a leviathan 70kg – almost half his bodyweight - which is the equivalent weight of the average British woman.

Now slimline Ashley, who lives in Brunshaw Road, has dropped from a 4XL size down to a large and proudly weighs around 14 stone.

clap Fair play, that takes some effort. I've lost nearly 4 stone since march and while I've enjoyed the journey it takes some doing.

Your mate must feel the bks.

the biggest problem is that amount of weightloss can be deadly. These restriction diets are not healhy in the long run.

'An inquest in Leeds was inconclusive about whether the controversial LighterLife diet - which restricts people to 530 calories a day...'

the nhs

http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/loseweight/Pages/top-10...

'BDA verdict:
Rapid weight loss can be motivating but it is unsustainable. LighterLife’s VLCD and its counselling component may work for some, particularly people who have struggled to lose weight for years, have health problems as a result of their weight and are clinically obese with a BMI of more than 30. A VLCD that involves eating 1,000 calories a day or fewer should not be followed for more than 12 continuous weeks. If you are eating fewer than 600 calories a day, you should have medical supervision.'

Let's see what he's like by February 2013... then February 2014. What are his plans?

Pretty good going. This proves that it can be done with a bit of effort.

Spruce - i thought that myself - its alot of weight to lose considering a) the calorie limit b)no excercise being built into the program.

will be interesting to see how he fares in the months to come - not sure how it works once your off the diet

I've read that if you've been large, it's pretty much a complete lifestyle change, and not just a diet and do what you want thing.. It's diet all the time to not put the weight back on?

The problem is that 500 calories a day is about a quarter of what's needed for a man. So at some point he's going to need to ramp up the calories significantly, and that's where the issues could occur.

I have to say congratulations to him though, he's lost the equivalent of giving me a piggyback 24 hours a day. biggrin

He'd have lost more if he didn't eat a thing for 6 months, though... now, given that my body needs 1600 just to exist (for brain activity, keeping organs doing their things, bowels moving), what happens if I eat 500 a day (or indeed nothing) for 6 months? What really happens? Any docs care to answer?

Yeah... I was thinking more in terms of overall health. Wonder if any research has been done into it.

Hurrah! Man loses 11 stone, 12 million brain cells, takes 15 years off his heart, pancreas and kidneys and he didn't have to do a day's exercise! All celebrate the total victory of laziness! Go eat, consume, spend because nomatter your lard storage, you can clear it like st out of your toilet by something as easy as pulling a handle...

The bit I like is the life shortening effect it will have on other self-indulgent self-obsessed ignorant quick-fixing fkwits as they attempt to copy him.

I do believe there is a god... and he wants to be me. biggrin

(NB: pist. Deal with it)
