Started wearing glasses when I was about 21 or 22 - read an article in I think Autocar or Auto Express about people driving with vision that they would not pass a driving test with, which included a sample eye chart. Tried it, thinking I could easily do it, and, erm, couldn't.......so hot footed it to an opticians. My prescription is relatively mild - I JUST can't read a numberplate at the required distance. I tend to wear them all the time, but can easily get by without them if not driving. I tend to find my eyes feel tired by the end of the day if I don't wear them though.
I've worn specs for as long as I can remember.
However just recently I have stopped wearing them for certain tasks.
In front of the computer, like now, whilst working I wear them constantly.
But of late I have noticed that I can see clearer without them when driving (can actually read numberplates from a long distance now) and whilst watching a film or playing a video game (as you're not as close as when you're sat in front of a PC)
What's happening? Are my eyes getting better or summit?
I know the obvious answer is to get to an optician but right now I can't afford new glasses which is what I suspect they will suggest.

My eyesight is similar to you. Have you tried the contacts you can leave in? The ones I have can be left in for up to a month, I ended up up switching to taking them out every week or two usually though to give my eyes a rest. They great for people like me who hate putting in contacts and are barely functional in the mornings. It's nice waking up and being able to see without hunting for glasses, and not worrying about falling to sleep with glasses on. clunkbox said:

I'm a -7.5 -4 glasses prescription but am in my second month of the monthly wear lenses, and loving them to bits. Not a fan of all the faff with lenses but popping them out once a week for a rinse and then popping them back in or leaving them out overnight - or for a day or two has been trouble free.The first minute or so as you wake up is interesting though as your eyes are a little dry and your vision isnt the clearest - they are also quite cheap and as you don't use anywhere near as much fluids you save money there too.. (I just 'borrow' a little from SWMBO who gets fluids with her lens scheme)...

Yep I find they can be quite dry in the mornings, especially in a warm, dry room of after a night on the sauce! Only problem is that it's very easy for go away for a day or two and forget to take any solution, cases or spare glasses! I once found myself in the middle of the highlands, with no solution or glasses, only to have a lens fall out! Had to wash it in water (bad idea) and put it back in otherwise I would have been blind for the next few days till I got home. Lesson leatned!

Surprised me too.. Wonder if this poll had been done say 100 years ago what the percentages would have been. Have TVs/computer screens etc caused poor eye sight..Worn glasses since I was in Primary school, 40 years now. +6 in both eyes and astigmatism.
Wearing varifocals now and although I love them, looking at a screen all day with my head tilted back is becoming a pain.
Tried contacts, not suitable for Laser
So I'm looking at Refractive Lens Exchange
Contact lenses and glasses wearer..comes with age!
Glasses as a child up to late teens and went for full time contacts - am long sighted, bit of astigmatism.
As the short-sighted bit has crept in, contact lens powers have been reduced slightly and I pop glasses on for laptop/reading if I need them.
Happy medium for me.
