I'm in Twickernham this weekend at Uni, I recorded it - any good? Was it circuit based exercises or thrusters/muscle ups etc?

Made me smile to see it on TV, I used to do the Ultra Fit Comps in 97/98 through Ultra Fit magazine at the NEC in Birmingham, now the new worded "X-Fit" has made it to TV, good stuff though its all training and getting people off there ass.

A lad was saying today Life Fitness have released a new Signature "X Fit Machine" apparently its a waste of money and another gimmick, very expensive but not much use. If you do muscle ups on it you're close to caving your head on the bars and there's a Trampette on one end which is good for plyometric med ball throws or open chain rotator cuff exercise but nowt else, he said they were just running at it and jumping back from it after they got bored. Hey Ho Virgin Active and such like will have one!

Watched the first hour or so then it clashed with the boxing so have the rest recorded.

It was a bit like their world games with some of the 'big names', working in teams - Europe v USA.

It's a series (yeah!) and very interesting. A variety of events like thrusters and box jumps and hang pulls followed by pressing. Painful just to watch it! Especially the poor woman who had to battle on through muscle ups post failure.

Just watching it now - Think it looks brilliant, nice to see the judges checking form. But in all honesty a bdo into a burpee onto a box is hard to check quality, they d need a sensor to check chest to certain level, elbows fully extended etc - however still a lung bleeder and can't wait to give it a go.

My overhead squats are so poor lack of shoulder flexibility, tight hip flexers etc etc to be young again a BMW?

I've only watched 1st stage.

Yep, wish I could go back and start again. I'd do things so differently - no bodybuilding inspired stuff for sure. I bet I'm even stiffer and more restricted than you are but I'm wondering about starting (v. light) OH squats just for the postural benefits and combining them with high rep free squats, Linesman squats and foot raised lunges which my brother is doing lots of these days.

Mate great minds think alike, I'm going to make an effort with overheads now, my problem is I was born with unilateral talipes (clubfoot) and unfortunately they've re-arranged a few things with tendons and muscles on my left leg, this has left me with so many imbalances and compensations elsewhere. Kinda paying the consequences now. But hey still got 2 legs and know there are many far worse off.

The positive thing was my son was born with the same and the surgeon was keen on moving his tib ant tendon to take over were his peroneals aren't firing (done that to me alongside many other things), they evert the foot and prevent foot drop, I said no and currently using a machine on him which fires an electrical impulse via pads you can see his foot evert with it. Hopefully it will get the peroneal nerve firing and prevent more surgery. They cut the Achilles tendon to gain dorsfiexion then cast the foot, which again the done to me and its got to make a weakness to the tendon.

Sorry for long response.

However I'm joining you on overheads try and get some flexibility gains and better technique.

You've obviously got your shoulder to deal with as well......come on the old and bold!

Sorry to hear about that - you'd never guess from what you can do, was it a case of using this to drive you on to achieve physically? - and of your son. At least you'll know what issues and treatments to avoid, or that work + he'll realise from your example that it needn't hold him back too much.

I know what you mean about the effects of compensation, I had a curved spine (Alexander's Syndrome) from the off, never properly diagnosed or treated and that I'm sure led to my lower back and hamstring problems, on top of the excess stiffness at the top of the spine which I really need to work on. I need to get organised and get back to a better planned and more holistic approach. I aim to retire in the next 3 or 4 years and then will really 'hit it', might even re-train/qualify as a boxing coach or similar.

I've just completed the two week induction for Crossfit. Nice bunch and can work around my injuries/disabilities.....bad knees and so no impact on legs/feet at all. So I'm doing modified weights and box jumps. I'll row instead of run. My knee still recovering from doing them and will monitor the aches!

I bet you're right - the hamstring's can be affected by a stiff thoracic spine, you've done well to keep training and if you're retiring soon then I hope I keep training that long.

Well I've got on my itinerary today, thrusters, box jumps and then the most poorly performed overheads ever with just a bar!! In fact maybe just a Reebok bar with nil weight.

To add I've done my assistant boxing coaches course not full coach and thoroughly enjoyed it, very old skool if I'm honest but that was in 2002/3, went through all the basics footwork, training and obviously punching techniques. 5 days it ran for.

Painkillers and told to get GP referral! Now done and seeing surgeon Wednesday morning! Helps when you have his mobile number and he's your patient! Ball rolling quickly! Might go to crossfit and avoid all legwork until sorted.

No, maybe tomorrow? (dread!) did high rep shoulder stuff tonight. So I'll be even stiffer and more pained tomorrow.

I will have a crack but am going to wait for my left knee to be pain free first, it's easing but still not fully there.

Can't moan though after reading about McGee's - christ, that sounds bad. Hope the docs sort something out for you...

Ha ha, at least you trained though.....i'm not turning this into another what training thread, but I set my own circuit up with overheads and thrusters, then 750m row between each set, then I stacked some mats up and done those press up with a jump on the off and another press up, really good....I have a lesson tomorrow at 1030 so will try it on them for verification of "hardness".
