GET THAT PIGEON AWAY FROM ME!

Look, every morning I stand naked in front of the mirror and punch myself in the nuts to confirm I'm sane, that's all I'm saying.

Dont you only have to move 12" or something daft to class it as a leg press?
Dunno, looked at a Ronnie Coleman YouTube video of him doing a 2000lb leg press and he was only moving roughly a foot.
laugh

The gym I go to has it's fair share of posers. The sort that load up a machine (never free weights) and lift it/extend it/push it right out, to then do a dozen 2" reps as quickly as possible, then spend 5 minutes looking at themselves in the mirror.
Partial reps have their place though, but only when used in conjunction with FROM reps. Have you tried of 21's?

I use the people you describe as examples of where not using FROM can take you. The classic meathead walk, with biceps so short they can't straighten them. They're not trying to look hard. It's that their body is FUBAR!

Go about 1:30 in - that's mad! The guy is full of helium!!!
Yeah Hannibal. Started copying a few of his moves... 6 months later I'm still working on getting closer. He's a total funky chicken though. Both his legs combined have less meat on them than my middle leg.

(we have lots of racks! - probably about 15 racks and 5 lifting platforms)
Sounds like heaven - we only have one and it's always full of silly kids doing partial squats with "heavy" weights.
Wanna see a picture?

Power base Loughborough uni by Alex_Mason, on Flickr

This is Power Base at Loughborough Uni where I work. This place was always good, but not too long ago it got re-fitted and re-kitted. Technogym supplied most of the kit and the whole place has Gatorade backing. It was done for the Olympics as, this being a sporting uni, quite a few of the Olympians are based here!

So in the center its all lifting. Racks and Platforms. The row of racks right at the back under the mezzanine level are reserved for the Elite athletes. Closest to me at the bottom is the free weights (replete with dumbbells so heavy I can't get them off the rack... 60kg at least.) And there is a wall with ceiling height netting for med ball throwing and keg tossing.

On the mezzanine is the usual sorta cardio gear, watt bikes, cross trainers, treadmills, concept 2 rowers and hand bikes.

On the left under the lower ceiling is mostly technogym weight machines. They have about 2-3 of most machines. There are the conventional ones with levers and pulleys and less conventional ones where everything is just handles and cables (so for instance a normal shoulder press machine would have a lever system which pulls on a cable, the others have 2 spars which hold the cables out, there are handles in-line with the cables and you are essentially pulling directly on the cables... machine work out but supposed to give you more freedom in your motion.). The cable machines have independent left/right weight stacks.

They also have most exercises duplicated again with hammer-strength style machines where you have to load weight discs on to the arms and each side is independent of the other.

There is plenty of floor space and kit for core work and they also have a big Beaver Fit climbing frame thing under there as well.

On the right hand side, the green bit, is the sprint corridor. Its about 30-40m long rubber crumb type surface. In there is all sorts, modular boxes for box jumps, tyres, sleds, big bits of rope, beer kegs, kettle bells, one of those reaction time machines, rowing dyno, hurdles etc etc.

All in all its a pretty awesome place and with staff discount.. £20 a month!
