Doing the Cheshire one in a few weeks. What should I wear?

Got a pair of trail shoes but beyond that I'm not sure.
Shorts and socks and you're good to go!
That's my plan for the next one.

Got a pair of Kanadia 5 free when I got some new running shoes recently. Plan on wearing these as I believe they will get destroyed.

Shorts - done
Top - ? I am not going shirtless. Not my style. Only ever trained in a t-shirt, what would you recommend?

You can get KSO trek versions, I've got a pair, wouldn't do anything more than sprints in them at the mo.
I have an old pair of Technica trek shoes I got from TK Maxx that are good for this.

Been doing my pulls in my gloves, give my forearms an almighty pump.

Just to add my Inov8s looked a right mess.

Threw them in the shower at the hotel to rinse them down, then in the washing machine when I got home and they're as good as new.

I'm out of it now. My nephew has pulled out, he doesn't wanna cold the day before his holiday, and I can't be bothered running with anyone else.

How many of you guys are ex-forces? I'm sure these events are tough, but seem a little 'prentendy' for civvy wannabes.

Can anyone tell me I'm wrong as I'd like to give one a go and the OH is keen too.

One of the guys I did it will is ex-military. He said it could be tough....if you had some bloke screaming at you to do it faster.

As it stands, it's something you do at your own pace because it's not timed.

It's as hard as you make it basically.

In less than 24 hours I should be over 2/3s of the way round.

I'm really excited, but I imagine that excitement will be gone as soon as I've done the first obstacle.

Here's the course map: http://toughmudder.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/uk/201...

500m of ascent apparently.

We plotted from the start to the highest point being around 134m....of course you don't just run to the top, you run across, up, down, back up, down...

500m is some serious ascent though!

I'm away at 11 so with any luck may have the end in sight in 24 hrs time!

An ex squaddie I work with told me he has done 3 TM's so it must at least pose a bit of a challenge.

This.

You have to be reasonably fit to get round and complete, or least have a go at, every obstacle. The running is also very cross country. Lots of people walking lots of the time.

It's then an exponential rise in required fitness relating to the speed at which you can get round.

It's a shame it's not timed actually, none of us had a watch on (for fear of losing it) and there was no start time clock so only have a rough idea how long it took (2hrs 45ish).

The only obstacle that would phase me a bit now I've done one is the electric shocks. As long as the temp is 10deg + the ice bath is a doddle, takes your breath away but not as horrific as you would imagine.

That's rubbish, it's a lot of money to spend and not show....surely there's someone that could pose as your nephew, they don't take much notice of your photo ID at check in.

You are mising out, it's great fun.

I'd agree with that, before I did it, it was the ice bath, now i'm doing it again, it's the shocks!

I've decided to get a GPS watch for the next one to time myself and get elevations etc. I've searched everywhere to see if anyone who did the Yorkshire TM was wearing a GPS watch to see what the course was like in numbers.

Completed!

No top was the best idea ever. It seemed easier than I was expecting and it didn't seem like over 12 miles. Our time was just under 3 hours but that involved a lot of waiting around for people to complete obstacles.

Arctic Enema was horrific. I knew I'd hyperventilate and I didn't let myself down. Took about 30 seconds before I could go under to the other side. The electro shock stuff was easy. The backwards under water cage thing wasn't fun.

We're definitely going to be doing more next year.

Nice one.

Did you actually get hit by the shocks? Maybe the Yorkshire ones weren't set to southern softy mode or summat?

I found arctic enema and the backward trench pull thing a doddle compared to getting tasered!

Yup! IMO it is the only way to do it. You dry off so much quicker. The guys with the wet, muddy, gritty fabric rubbing against their bodies didn't look to be having a great time. I convinced both the other guys in our group to do it and they were thanking me the entire way round!

Yeah quite a lot! It's like being punched on random parts of your body!

I'm just rubbish at going into cold water. I don't know how to stop myself from hyperventilating. Other people said the shocks were worst. I got about 3/4 of the way on monkey bars before falling in. My grip went, buy the bars were covered in slimy mud and felt like they were rotating. Nailed everest though, I almost did it with no hands.
