I think I know why I did it, I'm used to using the smith machines at my old gym. First time actually doing proper freeweight barbell squats.wobble

No you did it because you were a numpty. But you will only ever do it once!

I recall seeing a really skinny chap at a gym once, he had loaded up an Olympic bar with loads and loads of 1.25 and 2.5 plates and was flat benching. God knows why he wanted all the little weights, or why he didn't use collars.

He managed two or three reps before struggling on the last one and the bar tilted. All the little weights slid off and variously landed in a pile or rolled across the floor. As the bar unloaded the unweighted side levered viciously upwards and all the little weights trickled off the other end. Now, with both ends unweighted the bar returned to level and skinny bloke just lay there with an empty bar and rapidly reddening face.

That's good. biggrin I also never use collars for bench press.
The only bar exercise that I require collars for are Olympic lifts, they could go anywhere then. biggrin

Ha, I did the opposite and forgot to check the weights we're evenly loaded before bench pressing. It was 1 very lop-sided rep and my back hurt like fck for a week. As the man above says, you only do it once.

I don't make a habit of this, but I went for a session in a Pure Gym local to me the other day and there was a chap doing this. Says it all really!

Apart from knackering my shoulders and making my golfer and tennis elbows flair up, what benefit is there to this exercise? I'm going to try it later. biggrin
