There was an ex soldier at our gym who had two artificial legs but real feet.

Well, it wouldn't work on the machines I've been on at least.
It would on the ones I've tried, hated, and since avoided - my knees really do not like that trajectory. But I wouldn't use just the arms - you would look, well, like he does.

I couldn't get used to the movement of them at all, and I noticed it in my knees as well.

Do you mean for once you don't have all the answers?

Yep, IED in Afghan, the meds managed to save his feet but not his legs.

I have no qualifications that relate to prosthetics, if that's what you mean.

Blimey. I'm not sure how that works. Presumably the feet are fed something so they're not dead meat?

how did they 'wire' his legs up so his feet still have blood flow?

i deliver post to a soldier who lost both legs, have some great chats with him about limb design.

Crumbs!

Bloodflow was my thoughts, too. You can't just have lumps of limb attached to metal and expect it to do anything other than rot.

The arms and foot pads are connected and move together and are connected to the adjustable resistance bit. The user can choose to push harder with their legs or arms but the whole mechanism is fixed together. Resistance can be set anywhere between '0' and 'I Cant Move This'. smile
My gym has a few different models which have the arms/pedals in different positions with a differing range of motion. Fortunately there is one I find comfortable.

Back on topic:
PT Sessions in the weights room. Nothing wrong with it, in fact should be encouraged for beginners. But when the girl under instruction turns up 20 minutes early, when it's really busy, gets one of the few bars and a bench, sets up for bench press in the cage, then walks out of the weights room coming back every few minutes to point out that 'she's using it' just pisses off everybody else in there waiting for the equipment.
