You do realise that whilst you are diligently saving the planet washing out your yoghurt pots and putting them in a separate bin, the council are mixing recycling and general waste in the their dust carts, don't you?
General and recycling are collected on different days by different vehicles..

Sometimes.

When they are under pressure they will happily mix any type of waste in the same load.

More of an under-your-breath chuckle than a moan. . .

Again, in the studio, in comes a guy who starts doing some jump rope, but. . . . he's wearing what looks like one of those cycling respo anti-pollution masks, although it may well be a dedicated mask for cardio work (assuming they exist as a thing). I don't get them, just work harder, instead of looking and sounding weird.

Best part is that it dramatically increased the volume of his breathing, so when he stopped his jump rope and the room was quiet, all you could hear was this spot-on impression of one of cinema's greatest villains.

I managed to refrain myself from walking up to him to say "Hi. Welcome to Puregym Lord Vader"

Oh you should have done!!!
Jeff, Jeff Vader!
I once looked into one of those masks when I was into that sort of stuff, but after reading some research, it seems they don't have a permanent physio effect. One has to actually live at altitude to get the effect on the blood cells from reduced oxygen. And it has to be months as well, not weeks, hence why the likes of Mo sod off to Denver for half the year.

biggrin

Best bit is, they're st for altitude training as they just make your lungs work harder physically but don't improve your ability to manage oxygen like you think they might if you were training at altitude. He might as well use a ballgag.

Source: a friend who does mountain rescue in the Himalayas. I offered to buy one for her as a birthday present and she basically called me an idiot for thinking it was even close to the same thing. redface

Yup, completely different. As you say, one's good for gimp training.
The other increases red cell count in haemoglobin which improves aerobic endurance work. Or just take EPO.
Either way training with a mask on is misguided, see also the sweatsuit idea.

As I already said it does have a physiological effect, but I guess psychologically it could help, on race day.
Myself I decided it wasn't worth it.

Isn't that the point? To improve the strength/stamina of the lungs/muscles used in breathing? Same as any other exercise for a specific muscle set.

You'd have to be a bit simple, surely, to think it would help in the same way as altitude training or with blood cell count?

I think that is how they were marketed when they had their 'fad' time a while back.

Ah ok. Doesn't mean they don't help in the other way though. scratchchin

Well I guess in the same way one can smash PBs on race day, or one trains at faster pace to make race day 'easier' it can have a psychological effect? But as said, one could just train harder anyway? I guess really whatever helps.
AN oxygen tent or oxygenated bath would have a good effect.

right today.
enter the changing rooms and 2 young lads are acting out some MMA moves with one trying to put the other in a sleeper hold and a couple of their other friends egging them on. the kid couldn't make him pass out so the other one got all confident saying 'you can't put me to sleep fam, on my movvas you can't. i should be in MMA'.
in the gym a friend who i hadn't seen was there so we ended up being one of those people chatting in between sets. he was using the cable machines on the other end of the gym too! biggrin (it wasn't busy though). after he left i just lost all concentration/focus on my movements. it didn't help that there was also this fairly old bloke (i'd say 40s at least) grunting heavily on every rep of his isolation movements then at the end of the set acting like he's nearly hurt himself.

Also got a letter through about my shoulder surgery, wont be able to drive for 4 weeks post then its rehab time and rebuilding. They are hopefully going to be able to repair it without using the Bicep Tendon otherwise if they do, my bicep will look different apparently. Oh well st happens etc

Extensive Labral Tear/Detachment to atleast the posterior and superior and part of the anterior labrum

Codes: W7714 and T6450

So they can 'repair' it via a superior labral repair or undertake a bicep tenodesis (apparently still controversial as its a new technique or something).

4-6 weeks in a sling following surgery (no driving for 4) then 3-4 months of rehab.

Could have been an old sports injury thats got reaggravated when i restarted playing american football but think i done it one a warm up set on the bench press, it had been feeling tight for a while and just thought i needed to stretch it out more etc. Then it went so 8 weeks to heal, put it out the following week training in American Football, played a game 2 weeks later and it was good for 2/3 of the game but then i did a modified sweep on the bloke infront who kept wanting afters (twice) and it went then.

So ive not been able to do any right upper body since June, which unfortunately is showing in physique.

st happens, just means that ill try yoga or something whilst i rehab
