This used to happen to me every time I gave up. I think a lot of it is your respiratory system having a good clear out of all the crap. It seems to get better over a period of a couple of months. You may be left with an irritating cough for a long time though.

I'm back on the fags, and hate myself for it. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply, it can't be that uncommen then, I will stick this one out for my daughter. I will post up the next time I get a cold in a couple of weeks I bet lol

Not so good your back on the fags tho. If I can do it I'm sure you can too.

I quit smoking on the 1st of October, mainly due to the fact my daughter was born on the 30th of October woohoo

2 months in and I'm in bed full of the cold/flu for the third time since I've stopped.

I used to get the flu once maybe twice in a year... But this is taking the biscuit, if this continues I would rather choose the fags than feel like crap the whole time.

Has anyone who has stopped smoking been in the same boat? And if you have will it get better or will I cut my losses and go spark up.
Exactly the same thing. I had months of cold, flu, mouth ulcers and acne (age 35 FFS!)
It does get better eventually but it was about a year before I felt normal again. It is worth persisting though. Better breathing, masses fitter, lots and lots richer!

You have a cold. If you had flu, you would not be going to Tesco to buy apples!

Take multivitamins and zinc supplements (maybe with some echinacea) and get a flu vaccination when you're better. Don't start smoking again - it actually makes you more susceptible to catching things.

As stated, the current cause is probably the germ-riddled places you've been frequenting with your new child! HTH.
I may have cold/flu but I'm not legless lol

I never actually thought It could also be the hospital germs too. Kara is getting her first injections on the 27th of december so I will make sure to take my gas mask lol

There's nothing worse than self righteous ex-smokers.

Keep at it OP, don't give in now and you too could be one of them.

If I was the OP I'd get back on the tabs, it's an enjoyable pastime and you'll find smoking helpful with the stresses of bringing up a child, you'll really need them at times.

After I stopped I was catching colds over and over again for a while. It passed after a few months. The reaon I stopped though was because before I became a smoker I used to get over a cold in a day or two usually, a week for rhe bad ones, but as a smoker I just couldn't get rid of them. So I used to stop when I had a cold, and the last time I just never bothered to start again when that cold was gone. That was a few years ago, no idea how many because I didn't want it to be a significant event in my life, I didn't want to be under any pressure to either stay stopped or to restart.

Now I shake colds in a day or two again, but it did take a long time for the lungs to recover and for a long time after I stopped I had a permanent phlegmy morning cough. That lasted probably over a year.

It's quite common for this to happen - at it turns out, smoking is actually the cure for the common cold.

The smoke is so toxic it kills viruses, which are more or less invincible. And you were inhaling that. It's definitely better this way. smile

I quit February this year and suffered from terrible colds and recurring tonsillitis for a few months after. However 10 months on and i now suffer from colds/throats much less and get rid of them quicker. Also i noticed after a few months of quitting how much fresher i felt waking up in the mornings, keep at it OP!
