"Using CGI to travel inside the body, this film explores the science of fat and follows young Britons on crash diets and undergoing liposuction operations to try and get rid of it.

"We meet Ebonie, whose crash diet has pushed her body into starvation mode, and follow Joe as he undergoes an extreme liposuction operation where ultrasound technology sculpts fat away to produce his perfect physique. We discover the science behind the diet pills which left Sam in a mental health unit and explore how binge eater Hayley has used food as an emotional prop throughout her life.

"Through the highs and lows, this is the inside story of 'How Fat Works'."

Edit: Well, it certainly does what it says on the tin. "I feel proud of my body already!" hehe WTF!

Saw this pop up on iplayer yesturday but ddnt have time to watch it. Will check it out tonight.

Not sure what to think of lipo really. Im sure diet can sort that out even at older age. My Dad had it done a few years back as he recons he could never get rid of the lower stomach fat. Must be a family thing as thats the first place fat goes with me and its a nightmare to get rid of. Im not convinced on lipo though, personally.

It's called hormones, I understand. Men have it divert to the abdominal area. Keeps us warm in winter in our caves before central heating or fires existed. smile

Ditto re lipo. I can see it works but then the good old fashioned "move more, eat less" works, too.

I do find real world case studies interesting, which is why I watched it.

I found the programme interesting, I did feel that the bloke somewhat "cheated" but I can also understand his frustration, and the results did look good! Another good one to watch is called something like Skinny Boys vs Muscle Men, It is interesting to me from a psychological point of view and the peoples motivation for wanting to change.

Yes, but we've all been there, and many of us have nailed it. He quite simply needs to cut back on the booze. The problem with his lifestyle is that he'll put it back on before long.

Any links for the programme you mentioned?

That was a great show. The "bodybuilder" (fatty)was very entertaining. I loved the bit where they went to the skinny guys gym and he couldnt help showing off his heavy deadlifting trying to impress the locals.

That was amusing but you could see he was doomed to fail from the very start, similarly to giving up smoking you have to "want" to. The very big chap was so motivated to succeed for his family and his own health he didn't let anything stand in his way and that showed when the results day came, although in my opinion he actually ended up too far in the other direction and could do with increasing his bf% a little for an overall more healthy body.

I cant find any links for it, it seems to be removed from Iplayer.

Yes, that guys BF was really low. Wasn't it sub 5% IIRC.

How did they measure BF% by measuring his leg?

Also, he looks like he's lost muscle mass?

Skin fold test, they would have taken measurements from several other places.

I thought they used bioelectrical impedance to measure body fat? They put them on a mat and wired them up, iirc.

Watched the programme and the guy who opted for a quick fix is in a world of pain if he doesn't keep up with a healthy lifestyle to maintain what he has 'achieved' by going under the knife.

Problem is as he's not attained this naturally through exercise and balanced eating, when it goes south, he's faced with the prospect of spending large sum of money to do the same again.

If you have done it through exercise and eating the right stuff, then you will have already gone through the process and it's easier to get back to where you are because you know you've done it and can achieve it again.

Yep, pretty much my thinking. It's like people who have a gastric band. Unless they change their lifestyle, they will start having problems again.

Even after having all that fat removed, he still didn't really have a six pack. Did he just stand around in the gym

hehe Possible. Or hard gainer - plus ate the wrong food. Although, I suspect he took protein shakes if not other products which would have helped if he'd put in the hard work so maybe you're right.
