a little motivation for you, 5 months smoke free today; yesterday a customer I've been talking to about giving up and how I did it, asked me out, apparently I'm an inspiration!
So I can breathe properly, can smell and taste properly and have a date with a fit bird smile

Keep on keeping on...

Well done on more than one count! Did you just go cold turkey or patches etc?

Fail!

19 hour day without any nicotine chews. First fail was in a hotel where the ciggie machine didn't dispense but kept £2 of mine! This not-smoking malarkey is expensive! Early start 430 mile road trip (shared driving) for a ONE hour event, 7.5 ton truck now abandoned after getting stuck in the snow. Might have stopped in Tesco on the way home and bought 10!

Back on the wagon in the morning.

Wobbly weekend and I appear to be struggling a bit when I'm out on events. It's what I do for a job so could be trouble, but thankfully it's a quiet time of year.

I'm surprised how much I've wobbled this year considering I went 8 months straight last year, but I don't get down, I just start day one a little more often than most of you.

Still, my non-smoking kitty would buy a whole load of ciggies or something useful.

I really find the patches help so may be worth a try?

I've tried just about everything, I've even found a nicotine replacement product I quite like (Nicorette Fruit 2mg chews - although I'm not a fan of seeing people chew - myself included). My problem is I quite enjoy smoking, BUT I will keep giving up, if I can go days/weeks/months/years between wobbles then it's better than hitting them all day everyday. Pretty rubbish really, but even with wobbles I'm at £155 saved (and in a jar) for January days I've not bought ciggies.

I'm pretty much the same as you. Was on 30 a day. Tried the Allen Carr course, patches, gum, in fact the whole lot. Not sure why, but I guess this time I just feel as though its the right time. I was also the only person who smoked at work, so stopping means I dont get the GLARE as I walk back in!
I pop the patch on in the morning and take it off at about 5pm. Have about 4 drags on an ecig after dinner in the evening and that seems to do its job.
Just taking it a day at a time but ike you, could still murder a fag on some occasions but at work I now rarely think about it.
Keep at it. Good app if you have a smart phone is NHS quit as it keeps a record of cash saved.

TRB, I'd suggest you stop trying to fathom this out yourself (with our help).

Go see your GP and get their help.......... It's not just stopping the addiction they also help with a plan to make sure you avoid your moments of weakness.... They may suggest Champix and if they do it may or may not work for you.

Yes there are possible side effects but unless you try you won't know whether they effect you.

Not sure if there's more to it than that, but surely keeping track of £7 a day (20 cigs), isn't too difficult?

Morning,

I was inspired to read Alan Carr's book last week by a work colleague and downloaded it and read it all on saturday and packed in saturday evening. I'm not using any patches or gum as per the book's instructions. I've tried them before and they make me feel pretty sick anyway.

It's a great book and I'm really happy with the decision and it's going really well. I really like the way the book describes the problem you're trying to crack in terms of the addiction to nicotine and it puts it all in the proper perspective and sets you up for quitting.

As of today the withdrawal is easing off and I can taste a weird saccharin taste on my tongue which I guess is my taste buds repairing. I'm having a bit of trouble sleeping but I guess it'll all settle down in a day or so.

Cheers,

Mark

Im not doing anything for it at all. Cold turkey here, but I do have motivation! Almost £280 a month could quite happily be put to better use on a nice toy! Whether that be finance, or save for a while, it gives me something to aim for, I think that's the only reason I haven't wobbled at all this month.

Not noticed any physical differences yet, except I'm much more aware of other smokers, didn't realise the smell was that bad!!

Im joining in. Day 7 today with Champix.
Its a superb drug which removes all the stress and tetchiness from stopping, although you still need willpower obv. Failed a few times but I reckon this is my time

4 weeks and a day smile

Minus 300 fags, Plus 300 miles on the bike.
I had a total of 5 nicotine replacement mint lozenges in the first couple of days, nowt since.

Sleep and eating now back to normal, detox cold & cough gone. Breathing and fitness up significantly.

Got no choice but to carry on, I've spent this year's snout savings on bike & gear already hehe

I finished the book a few weeks ago, and haven't smoked since. I am actually amazed that the reading the book has done this for me (yes i know it's down to me, but i can't stress enough how good the book is).

Good work. How are you finding it moodwise?

Day 16 for me and I have cut down Champix to 1mg every 2 days which seems to continue to have the desired effects.

Seem to be getting on top of this now (finally/again!). Hitting the nicotine chews harder than I thought, but normally these reduce over time into nothing. Not ideal, but several days clean.

Everyone else doing ok? If you've struggled (and I have, quite a lot), it helps in a weird way to put a marker down on the thread and start from scratch.

Been off the tabs now since November last after a warning from the doc re high blood pressure and short of breath, smoked 20-30 a day for years. I've been on the 4mg fruit chewies and now down to a 105 piece box every 2 weeks. I still get a passing urge for a smoke occasionally but have so far resisted mainly due to health factors I think. I dream about having a smoke regularly, I'm told this is normal as nicotine is so addictive (more so than heroin, I'm told) but I'll live with that.

Someone once told me that once a smoker always a smoker, if you stop you're only having a break between tabs but I don't hold with that theory myself.

Keep up the good work people, I'm sure that the mutual support on this thread helps everyone, myself included.
