Also day three here, sore throat, headache and cudnt sleep last night! But the fresh mouth and lungs feel brilliant! Think my sense of smell has came back abit! Got a lung full of the finest tranny van emissions before, beautiful! Keep it up peeps, there is no loss from smoking only gains!!!

I've been walking most places instead for that reason I gave up in Oct 2009 after reading "the book"

FWIW, you have to want to quit. Properly.
Many people have a half-arsed approach and want to have a smoke with booze or on a night out but quit the remainder of the time. Not possible.
I was fed up with laying out nearly 7 quid a pack to stand out in the freezing cold. There as also the sheer inconvenience of having to stop and smoke - long journeys, going outside at work, etc.
I look at it like being an alcoholic. Alcoholics quit booze and don't touch a drop again otherwise they could end up in the gutter. I'm the same with cigarettes - one drag and I'll be down the shop for more before you know it.
Once the withdrawal phase has gone (2-3 weeks) it's a choice, not a craving. I now choose not to smoke. It's a good feeling

End of day 4. Still some niggling cravings, but my irritable levels have dropped a fair bit.
Went for a jog down to the beach and then a swim in the ocean when it got too much this afternoon. That seemed to work.
Just had a nice meal and really kind of want one now. But I think not drinking this week is really helping.

Good luck with giving up the cigs , it is almost 2 years now for me, after 20+ years of puffing away. I tried previously with patches, sprays etc. But they did not work well for me.
I went cold turkey with loads of exercise, the craving goes away quicker you have something else to focus on, in my case it was the exercise.

Yep. I went cold turkey with loads of exercise, the craving goes away quicker you have something else to focus on, in my case it was the exercise.
I go and run/walk to take my mind off it whenever I get a bad craving. Really working so far.

I have a young family and i'd like to be around as long as i possibly can for them so that’s my motivation in knocking it on the head.
I did enjoy smoking though so if i get run over by a bus and die I’ll be really, really angry.
Well, its 4 days clear, no temptation yet, so doing well. Stayed away from situations that may be associated with it, havent been in my workshop for a few days, and have been staying inside more.
However, am noticing its affecting my sleeping? Im finding it harder to sleep, and harder to get up each day.
The OH, who has quit for new year too, is having horrific dreams, is this possibly due to withdrawal?

I'm the same, I have a place where I smoke(d), that's the hardest part to deal with. Congrats on the 4 days. I suppose the non-smoking could be something to do with the sleep and OH's dreams. Meanwhile .... Day ONE for me again - slight slip up! Nothing major and didn't smash a whole pack like I did on New Year's Eve, but still gotta be honest with you guys!

Ok, I'm useless. My old man took my 7 year old to football (well, Fulham), came back to ours for tea (Buckinghamshire) before heading off home to Sussex. Bent their car a mile into the journey (nothing drastic)
Limped back to my place, I took them home, and got home myself about 1am.
Walked my dog down to the 'man-cave' - which is fast becoming my achilles-heel and had a smoke (or 2).
Since new year if you exclude the man-cave I've smoked ZERO - if you include the man-cave I've smoked 10 - I guess still better than the 20+ a day I was smoking before. In fact I can go back to the 27th if we exclude the one place that's catching me out.
There is temptation everywhere (everyone else smokes, ciggies left all over the place), and not using the place is out of the question. I gave up for 8 months last year while on a project based solely in my office at the man-cave, so I know it can be done, but having difficulty getting 100% off them this time round.
Even though I know smoking is crazy expensive, I've been physically putting the money I spend on cigarettes into a tin to emphasise that point.
It seems to be evenings (and in *that* place) that I'm struggling with. Rest of the day I don't even have an urge or craving.
