I gave up on the 18th Dec 2015, started running again to avoid weight gain, got the bug, ran my 1st marathon last month in 3.40

I just wish i had done all this sooner. If you smoke, please stop.

OP. You're not a million miles from me in Newbury. Why don't you invest £150 (refundable) in the hypnotherapist I visited. I've recommended him to about a dozen locals in my village pub and he's got all but two off the weed permanently. It's not even weird "you are feeling sleepy" hypnotherapy. You just kind of have a chat with him and walk out an hour later a complete non smoker!

PM me if you want his details...
I'm not a million miles from you, can you PM me the details of your hypnotherapist please Schmalex?

Been back smoking 20 a day for the past 11 months after quitting for 2 years. Absolutely hate smoking, fed up with it.

I'm on my 3rd week of Champix and, having cut down a lot, this is my 3rd day of zero smoking.
Addiction aside, breaking the habit of 46 years is hard.

Good work. I have no idea when I stopped now. I refer to this thread to work it out, and I'm hoping this is a good sign that it doesn't really matter when it was as I've got my head around it this time. I guess it's knocking on for 5 months (which have gone insanely quick).

Was at A&E yesterday and a stunning young lady popped outside for a smoke. Previously I would have dashed outside to join her as an excuse to strike up a conversation, but I managed to convince my brain to think "what a shame such a lovely young lady smokes"

Still could quite easily grab one (a smoke, not a random lady at a hospital), but I haven't thus far (well, not this time round, the thread has been a battle over a longer period).

I'm at over 3.5 years now give or take a week. Hardly ever think about it but weirdly at the weekend smelt a ciggy and have to say I really wanted to have just one to see. Luckily slapped myself and didn't
A bit more than 5 years for me. Smoke about one a year now. Most of the time because I am very drunk and I temporarily forgot what always happens nowadays -> that I feel very sick the next morning.

Don't miss it the other 364 days of the year, even though a good mate now works for BAT and could get me Luckies for free....

I also failed (standard) earlier this year, but I went back on the e-cigs rather than smoking. Desperate to not be one of the "look at me I vape" brigade, but (other than reduce the nicotine content to minimal) I've not really tried to get off them.

Still fancy a smoke, to the point where I'm thinking I'll smoke on summer holiday as a treat. Madness!

I did buy a vaping kit last time I quit but I am not going to use it this time , I don't see the point in swapping one for the other, especially when the risks with vaping are still not really clear.

Plus, like you, i don't want to be one of the 'vaping crowd' either smile

Day 165 and all craving has gone. Long may it last.

My wife had a bad reaction to Champix so is on the nicotine patches. Day 6 and no craving. Mind you, it was her birthday, which may have helped distract her. She, too, had been smoking for more than 40 years. It can be done. Fingers crossed.

This thread is my only record of quitting (hopeless memory that I still blame champix for smile ) looks like 25 July last year so coming up 10 months, although a few months on the electric gubbins. Honestly think this thread has helped by making me accountable to a bunch of random internet strangers, although took a few efforts over the years.

Never give up trying to quit.

It is funny how one can experience peer pressure from a bunch of usernames on an internet forum!
this will be my third attempt, I normally last a week or two and then it all falls apart when i go out on the lash.

This time I have given up going out on the lash too...i have not had any alcohol at all for three days, that is some kind of record for me!

I was in hospital a few days ago. Guy in bed next to me had some issue with blood supply in his legs. Dr told him quite bluntly that he could choose between smoking and keeping his legs. The man (Only in his 50's) kind of grunted and said he'd have a think but that is was difficult.

I was a bit gobsmacked really. Can it really that be hard to give up that loosing your legs may be a serious consideration.

Well, he is in his 50's. Maybe he feels he has already walked everywhere he wanted too smile

3 years today for me. From 20 Red Marlboro a day for 30 years to doing 50k off road bike rides for fun. Fitter, lighter, look younger and richer. Why the hell do we ever start smoking in the first place?

Well done to those that have quit and the very best to those still trying to kick the habit. It really is so worth the effort.

Well done. I've no idea how long I've been off but it's been a long time. I had friends over on Saturday night and we were in my garden drinking and the "social smoking" came out. I got offered and I can honestly say, I wasn't even tempted. It was a straight no thanks. I can't say i look younger or have replaced it with a healthy activity but at least my lungs have a chance now biggrin
