Most non steroid supps will have a pretty negligible impact compared with diet and training. I guess if you have them nailed, then an extra 1 or 2% gain from supps may be of benefit, but probably not worth the money unless they're cheap.

"...glutamine has been very much maligned and misunderstood"

Sorry? Wasn't that Ebeneezer Goode?

Anyway yeah there's a fair bit of reading you can do on Glutamine. What you have to be VERY careful about is that new evidence with Glutamine saturation has only come to light in the last year or so. So there are a lot of articles that will be out of date. i.e. I got a bit disheartened by a backward forum discussion about L-G but then noticed the posts were from 2007...

What what I have seen recently is seems that if you want to max HGH and you intend a dense rountine where recovery is important, L-G is pretty handy. Or the alternatve way of looking at it is, if you struggle to make good progress, it may be that yout L-G is not high enough. It could be taken up by your immune system combating a virus you never knew you had for e.g.

It is also now known that your primary use of L-G is reserved for your brain, not skeletal muscle. So if maybe if you have a high IQ and do a lot of thinking, maybe your strength will automatically suffer? Brains and brawn not mixing un all that. Maybe this is where "meatheads" come from? wink (now there's a nice construed cuss)

1,3-dimethylamylamine/DMAA is an awesome supp. Why the hell someone would choose to run a marathon on the chemical is beyond my logic.

It's like doing a line of gear haha.

Anyway, the supps I notice a difference on are creatine and cod liver oil. The first one affects my strength and the latter, my joints.

I take your standard impact whey from MP and I've just started taking Beta Alanine after reading up on it. It's only been a couple of weeks though, but I don't notice anything much other than the tingling sensation is becoming less noticeable.

I usually take a spoonful of peanut butter washed down with creatine + beta alanine mixed in with an energy drink about 15-20 mins before working out.

I have ZMA caps too but I don't think they're worth it. I take a good multi and eat a wide variety of foods so don't think I need it. I'd rather take a j bone to help me achieve a better state of sleep than those! smile

This could be interesting although I should imagine prescription only! Its alleged this is one of the main reason we are seeing many super Russians again.

Myostatin inhibitors have been around for some time. Developed to fight against muscle atrophy from various diseases and consequently thought to have huge potential for muscle hypertrophy, at the time, in livestock. Remember that picture of the dog from a few years ago?

Mutant Whippet

The date of the patent application in your link OC is 2006 so it's quite possible someone's abusing this stuff already. Those crazy Russkies.

Thanks, I'd forgotten about mutant whippet!

It's hard to believe this ruskie is just 22 years old!

Lots of Russians coming out of Russia around around this age and looking ridiculous at the moment!

Is it just me being subconsciously cynical, but does his face say "HGH" to anyone? Just something about it that doesn't look 'right'?

Dude, 22 and looking like that? Even if he had god-like genetics, trained HARD since he was 16 and had a ridiculously good diet, I don’t think he’d look like that. Whatever it is, it isn’t natural. I’m not hating at all as that’s what some people aspire to look like, ‘whatever’ it takes.

As you say, his face doesn’t look like he’s 22, but I would eat my own arm off if he’s natural.

Another question is, could ANYONE look like that naturally? Probably yes, but I would have thought it would take longer than however long he has been training properly for and it would be a 1 in a million chance. Only my opinion mind you.

The thing is, if you make something your job… career.. sport… way to earn a living, then you would be stupid NOT to take any PED’s if you can get away with it.

People want to see monsters. Hence why WSM don’t test for anabolics either.

...but recently banned by the FDA.

Anecdotal only, but a good friend of mine, at the age of 30, was using this (Jack3d) regularly. He suffered from low sex drive, and after some blood tests was diagnosed with low testosterone. He cut out the Jack3d and reduced his caffeine intake. A retest a month later, his testosterone was back in the healthy range, and his girlfriend a lot happier.

That was enough for me to stop the pre-workout junk. For days when I'm sluggish, I now just take a 200mg caffeine pill 30 mins before working out.

Well two days into trying 5g Glutamine pre and post strongman workouts and... hmmm... not much really.

My Brachioradialis' after lat pullovers, angle arm rows, bentover rows, pullups to fail (including about 4 negatives), are serious starting to DOMS-up. Rhombiods are getting there but not much. But I don't feel as tired after a workout though.

btw, Glutamine seriously tastes like sh!t, even mixed with other stuff. In fact it tastes so much like sh!t is ruins whatever you mix it with.

It was Jack3d that the marathon runner took and died from. The thing is it is a good supplement for what it’s intended for. Whenever I’ve used it, it was for when I’ve felt lethargic and needed a big energy boost. I would not take it in the evenings, so limited my use of it for weekends only. I wouldn’t be surprised if it reduced your testosterone levels in some circumstances. I’d imagine he had a lot of poor sleep and it’s proven that not achieving enough deep sleep will lower your testosterone levels. If it wasn’t that causing it, I’d be interested to know what side effect of Jack3d caused it? If anything, the increased energy and motivation should indirectly increase your levels.

Jack3d is loved by the young lads at my gym, they are always on it.
Some still have the old naughty version.
