knee locks after kneeling down
Discussion
As title suggests, I'm a 48 y/o heating engineer and have always looked after my knees, i.e worn knee pads, used kneeling mats etc and have had no real issues, until about a month ago, walking/cycling etc is fine, but after I've knelt down at work for even a few minutes my left knee won't straighten without a painfull "click" Obviously I avoid kneeling as much as possible. After a bit of research I'm thinking meniscus tear, anyone had this? Will it go away, or is it a bit of physio required.
I used to get this a lot as a kid.
Kneeling down and suddenly something goes in the knee with a painful click and feels wrong and the reflex is to straighten the leg and with a painful "clunk" the feeling passes.
After starting gym at the age of 19 including working the legs it went away.
Don't know what it's called but hope you get it sorted for your work!

managed to see a GP this morning, refering me to physio, he ssemed to think my diagnosis was probably right. Hopefully physio will do the trick.
A very quick read of your story and without examining you as your GP has had the luxury of doing, but I'd put you on my waiting list for surgery if you told me that in my clinic. Not physio
But I can't diagnose or manage you over the Internet. Just give you a pointer when you say your " knee locks fter rising from a deep squat "

Sounds like a possible meniscus tear. I had that after dropping a motorbike and twisting my knee. After that my leg used to lock out quite regularly. I ended up having keyhole surgery to fix it and now its fine, although that leg probably isn’t as strong as the other one now. I was in and out of hospital the same day for the operation and on crutches for about a fortnight afterwards.
I have this too (or sounds very similar) and was diagnosed as "movie goers knee" (I jest ye not!)

Physio helps but if I forget to do the stretches etc for a while it resumes. Never seems to go completely, but a rowing machine has also helped.
