I've been on 15mg Lansoprazole (PPI)for years now following a ulceration of the duodenum.
My question is im currently suffering with a bad back (muscle pain I think)&
is vortarol/Diclofenac ok to take with PPI's?

i.e. would the 15mg of lansoprazole protect me from the stomach attacking diclofenac?

Don't start taking Diclofenac without talking to your GP first

I don't have any to hand, I'm just trying to get an idea of what pain relief I could use when Stomach acid is a concern for me.

What's the problem with diclofenac?

I'm on it at the moment for a kidney infection frown

I'd be sticking to paracetamol + codeine, avoid NSAID's (diclofenac, ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen)

Previous ulceration of the duodenum. Normally it's stomach ulceration they watch out for with anti-inflammatories but I wouldn't run the risk without seeing a GP first, with or without the lanzoprazole.

usually a previous ulcer would preclude NSAIDs for life.

Where does your back hurt? Back pain can be the result of stomach problems. Particularly midthoracic back pain.

I would think that if someone truly HAD to go on an NSAID (doubt/hope that's not the case for you, there are plenty of other options) then it'd probably be backed up by more than 15mg lansoprazole. I'm on long term diclofenac with lansoprazole to protect me from the diclofenac causing problems, they tried to swap me over to naproxen as apparently it's much safer longterm, unfortunately it made me sick as a parrot but that might be one to consider.

TBH you want a good long chat with your GP, make sure they have as much info as they need about your medical history and what you're already on, and go with their recommendation. A good GP is worth their weight in gold.

I've been on Lansoprazole for 10+ years for GERD and for taking Reisidronate Sodium for Osteoporosis.
Last year I was diagnosed with Osteo Arthritis in both hips, and I wouldn't be able to use any NSAIDS as pain relief. So instead I was prescribed Tramadol upto 400 mg daily. Not a pleasant drug to take side effects wise but excellent as an analgesic. Incidentally I used to get a fair bit of back pain but since taking Tramadol, it's a rare event.
