Hi all,

I had LASIK many years ago and I'm mostly satisfied with the outcome. One of the side effects that does bother me personally is corneal ectasia - where the cornea bulges very slightly.

This causes me irregular astigmatism that cannot be corrected by glasses or soft contact lenses, and also causes me glare at night when the pupil opens fully and unmasks the bulge. I'm also myopic - around minus 0.25.

I've been for a consultancy at Accuvision and after was advised that further laser surgery (while possible) was probably not the best option for me. (Highly recommended by the way - great people).

Now during the day I can operate normally without problems, -0.25 is nothing really.

If I go out on a rapid motorbike I'll wear glasses currently to remove the myopia and my resulting vision is crispy sharp - no issues.

The problems are at night. The astigmatism is not correctable by glasses and manifests itself most strongly in point light sources, and obviously night time is not much else than point light sources!

The glare results in a loss of contrast which means I occasionally lose my situational awareness while on a bike at night - not ideal and I don't feel comfortable riding at night as a consequence.

The solution appears to be rigid contact lenses. These would "flatten" the bulge optically, meaning the glare, the astigmatism etc would just vanish. Nice!

So I'm after a specialist, possibly in rigid contact lenses - but any advice would be welcome....

Probably not relevant, but I've found yellow night driving glasses reduce glare and flaring dramatically. Not sure if would help your issue though. Best of luck.

I'm not going to know until I try, am I? Thanks for the suggestion!

These: amazon. If they help some better quality ones may be worth a few more bob.

Thanks. I've ordered some - for the price of a couple of pints I'd be a fool not to...
