I set myself a target early last week to get the 180kg stone that no one has lifted yet, and today I got it!

Well done Smiffy thumbup

Two good sessions at the gym yesterday and today - the highlight from today's session was a 132 bench press, two shonky reps but I'm claiming it and two sets of dips, 70 reps each, did some back work after that. Pretty fried now.

Exhausting hour on the turbo earlier on in the day, with an avg heart rate of 176bpm - my maximum is 191. All in all very pleased with how things are going.

I take it back, feel amazing!
Off to do deads later, apparently I haven't been using my hamstrings all this time so need to strip right back to basics!

Ditto re smiffy.

2 x 70 dips? That's pretty good - something I'd like to emulate some time soon. Doing dips only as an accessory on bench day so may take a while. hehe

Just had a bath, and have noticed new stretch marks both on the top of my thighs and chest, near the arms! Seems that Arnold's routine and doing more reps really does make a difference, even though I am not as strong (due to the reps..) than I was when doing 5x5's.

Muscle atrophy when in your late 40's, pah! hehe

I appear to have developed a groin area (both sides) discomfort from deadlifting a commercial (handled) sandbag. I'm not lifting massive amounts at all - About 65kg, 5x5, not wanting to overdo it. I Keep the bag close and even lower it onto my feet

I tend to warm up by doing other exercises including pressups, kettlebell swings and squats.

I do a fair bit of core and bodyweight calisthenic conditioning.

Not sure how it has happened.....

Any ideas?

So Ms Militantmandy had her meet yesterday. Came away with a 305 total at 62.5 kg. 105 squat, 60 bench (pb) and a 140 dead. She tried for 150 but the planets didn't quite align. Still, she got the class win and qualified for the British Championships so pretty successful.

Those are terrific numbers for a female, the DL especially, again, well done Ms Militantmandy!

Thought I's have a crap session today. Again, freezing cold, felt like I had ice flowing through my veins, and still a little sore from yesterday's exertions.
But, it turned out OK, and I even managed to push press 85kg above my head for the first time ever! (don't sound a lot, but it is when it's the 4th exercise..)

BB Clean and Press (added 2.5kg to every set) - 4 sets of 12-8 reps (Those certainly cleared the cobwebs away)!
Low Pulley Lateral Raises - 4 sets of 16-10 reps

Wide Grip Heavy Upright Row - 3 sets of 10, 6 & 6
BB Push Press - 4 sets of 6, 4, 2 & 1 (70-85kg)

Strict EZ Standing Curls - 5 sets of 14-8 reps
Close grip Bench Press (hands 4-5" apart) - 4 sets of 14-7 reps (up to 80kg, kept elbows locked for a good 10 seconds - after that, things started to go grey..)
Incline Alternate DB Curls - 4 sets of 12-8 reps
Seated Triceps Extensions - 4 sets of 12-8 reps
Concentration Curls - 3 sets of 11-9 reps
Dips - 3 sets of 30-12 reps
Wrist Curls - 4 sets of 12-8 reps

That's a lot better than my injury inducing sandbag deadlifting!

Imagine the horror of knowing your girlfriend is on the path to out-lifting you?

Thanks guys! Was a bloody long day (8hours!) but a great result. The Scottish DL record @ 63kg is 160. Hopefully not for much longer!

Had an 'episode' I'm the gym last night. Got there and realised that I had left my belt there the previous time I was in. Searched for it and couldn't find it anywhere. Went into a bit of a childish rage! Mainly as I couldn't risk going up to the weight I had planned for a week I would squat (200kg). So, not wanting to just go home, I loaded 145kg, and, channeling the rage, got 30 good depth reps (a PB, although I rarely do 30-rep sets!). Was totally wiped out after, to the extent that the rest of the workout was rather pedestrian!

Then a pal came in and said, "Is that not your belt over there!" Oops...

So a PB AND I got my belt back! biggrin
