Had a wee gym deadlift comp today, got a 280kg PB - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UASO3Eot4IU

Happy, pain free and very surprised! Strength up, BF down. (dis 285kg after the comp- went up, but was hitched and ugly)

Joint second lift wise, top lift was 315kg by a 120kg bodybuilder (new gym record). BW was taken into account and I was knocked down to 4th. An 82kg guy pulled 270 (which was awesome!) and the other guy who pulled 280 was 93kg.

I'm just pleased I managed to pull off the floor pain free! Great fun day.

Won't be doing it again for quite a while.

When you go to the gym do you do any cardio as a warm up for weights?

Like 1000m on the rowing machine or do you just hit the weights straight away.

Helping a friend with his maters degree dissertation yesterday. About 2 hours worth of snatches on a force plate (lots and lots of rest), wearing nothing but lifting shoes, skin tight shorts and lots of reflective balls for the motion anaylysis. Finished off with a but of core work.

Ta. I've been considering making running a larger part of my training, which would mean I probably look towards lessening the weights, and look towards a circuit thing.
It depends on what you want to do with the running, it's great if you're training towards a particular race or distance but if it's health wise or to get body fat down, HIIT with hill sprints or something like that would be much better. The problem that i had before last November was that i was doing a power lifting 5,3,1 routine with running, struggling with the running and my strength was dropping so was pissing me off when i lifted, then in November i moved straight over to doing purely running with the cross training stuff, running has come on massively and weight and bodyfat has dropped, got a nice 6 pack coming along, but i'm nowhere near as strong as i was as even 100kg deadlifts felt heavier than i ever remember them being a few weeks back when i tried.

Yesterday should have been a nice 15 mile run at 9:00 pace per mile, felt comfortable so ran 17.2 miles instead and ended up being at 8:55 pace. Got the Lincoln 10km race coming up this Sunday so distance this week will drop a bit as i taper a little for the 10km but my goal for Sunday is to beat 45 minutes.

Well after a torn meniscus and wobbly PCL I've now progressed to leg extension machine (one plate or whatever its called), step ups (no weight) and single legged deadlifts, oh joy!

Still in a cast so not too much lately.

Mainly legs, some pull ups, and a little light cycling.

Tuesday:

3x20 Woodchops @ 7.5kg

Today:

Squats 6x10@40kg, 2x10@50kg, 2x10@55kg,
Leg Extensions 5x10@35kg
Leg Curls 5x10@40kg
Smith Calf Raises 3x20@20kg

Some stretching & power plate stuff.

Might get a bit of cycling in later too, if there's time.

No- I've got lots of tape. The steel I've got will be put into a flexible tube (:cough: cut arm of an old jumper...) and taped to the KB.

I tried swings with two bells and a rope this week. 2x16, harder than the 32.
Tried to do constant swings for ten minutes with a 20 and the two 16s.

First time I finished of with four sets of elliptical intervals earlier. One each of 12, 9, 6, & 4 minutes. Which equates to time on & off, of 1min, 45, 30, & 20 seconds.

Surprisingly after ploughing through the first two, the 6 & 4 minutes were a relative breeze, even though I ramped up the Level.

Had my heart rate up to the maximum I've seen it since owning this monitor. Touched 97% !

I can't program the machine to set up a Tabata-style 20sec on, & 10 sec off, so I may as well start using one of the two Tabata apps I have on my phone!

ETA - Oh and did my first Circuits class today as well. I've missed doing them.

So you did 20 mins in total? Did that nearly kill you?

Hang on, I'm confused!

Did you rope two 16's together? Or one 16 per hand?

Just the ten mins, that was enough!

Slipped the triceps rope between the two bells. So the force was central.
