Slowly get back to it.... Doing full body workouts, squats, press, deads and bench press. Light and moderate weights only.
Feels great to be back at it! biggrin

More of the same for me the last week or so. A bit of weights and then onto the treadmill.

Got a week off work now so I'll get some good sessions in smile

Back into lifting. Now without a belt.
Things are getting better.

About half as strong as I used to be, but fk it, I look good.
One trap seems to be higher, might look at longbow pull-ups to correct.

Really good week of training for me, feeling really sharp on the pushbike, culminating in doing 134km yesterday with 1,600m of climbing. I was really flying smile

I always feel an early morning skydive sharpens the senses!

Yesterday:

Bench 2x5, 1x6
Squats 2x5, 1x9
BB rows 3x8
Glute ham raise 3x10

Hard workout, had no sleep 2 days before which meant I was too exhausted to eat properly the day after.

It's a great exercise, very tough as there's no stability, so only shoulders/tri's to move the bar.

Right then - back from this leg of the tour - Hotel had the sttest gym in the world and we were busy so had the briefest of workouts on one of the days - back home now.

Week 5, Day 2 - StrongLifts 5x5

Squat - 5x5 @ 57.5kg
OH Press - 5x5 @ 35kg
Deadlift - 1x5 @ 75kg

First milestone reached - Deadlift was/is now above my bodyweight.

Inspired by the z press, I put a floor circuit together for a bit of fun.

30kg ez curl bar circuit x10. No rest between exercises.

z press x10
floor press x10
kneeling curls x10
kneeling upright rows x10

followed by running a mile on the treadmill in 8:05. This nearly killed me!

Going to finally start upping the distance now rather than my current and rather lazy 1 mile efforts smile

Cheers Ben - it is me by the way, I promise! Anyway, what's with all this CV training you've been doing? I thought you were more hardcore than that!

Yeah, my wife wouldn't call a measly mile CV hehe

Mainly dong it for my dodgy ankle and it is doing it the world of good. I'm going to start doing 5k on the treadmill for a couple of weeks and then go out for the local ParkRun smile

I have to admit that when I first read your post I thought it might be a metaphor for all the hills you ride!

Sounds like a good plan - it's nice to be gym strong but it's even better if you can combine that with having a decent set of heart and lungs. I know you're a pretty strong guy in the gym but increasing your CV fitness should make your gym sessions more productive too.

Re skydive - did it early Sunday morning, came home within 20 minutes of landing, 5 minutes of puking in the toilet and I was out on the bike. Needless to say I slept pretty well Sunday evening!

Just stumbled across your journal on BB.com - it ended in March I think - what happened?

It was really informative regarding SL 5x5 which I'm nearly midway through the initial 12 weeks.

I'm a big fan of training 'The Engine' and switched to complexes and KB circuits a few years back. Training this way has been better for my joints as well as having a cardio benefit. Best of both worlds IMO smile

As for sky diving + cycling in the same day. Add swimming and you have a new extreme triathlon !

Yep, I really enjoyed SL5x5 - made some great progress. biggrin
I barely made it to 12 weeks though; once I got to 2 plate squats three times a week I struggled - see here: click and my next few posts. paperbag
