What training are you doing/have you done today? Vol.2
Discussion
Yesterday, circuits at the gym - felt really good, highlight being 2 sets on the bench press at 100kg. Haven't done that since January of this year. Nice to shift some proper weight for a change. This morning, fairly hilly bike ride - 1hr 40 with 700m of climbing. Really good average speed, even if it was tempered somewhat by waiting for slower riders and an unforgiving F6 NW wind.
Back to the gym this afternoon, mostly bodyweight exercises but also a mini arm workout too. Thought I'd finish it with seeing how many reps I could do on the olympic bar (no weights added) managed 45 reps, arms ready to explode!
Super motivated with my training.

Yes, Well done Pilch - that's the sort of weight I can only dream about at the moment!
OK, training today - I promised myself I would not do anything that involves using my arms this week, in the hope that my bicep tendon, or whatever it is I have borked, heals sooner rather than later.
So today, just legs.
Squats - 8 sets, starting at 100 and ending with 140. That was the 5th set. Wasn't happy with the last couple of squats with 140 so went back down to 120 and did 10 deep reps. (6th set)
Calf Raises - never done these before so started with 80kg and used a bit of floor board to put the front of my feet on. damn these are effective, did 5 sets in all, wanted to do 6, but calves weren't having it!
I then had an idea, I would try a set of squats using 80kg with my heels on the edge of the raised board (7th set). I managed 16 reps, and it felt a lot better with heels slightly raised.
Leg Raises - 6 sets of 12 reps
leg Curls - 5 sets of 10-12 reps ('till exhaustion!)
Finally, I thought I'd do one more set of squats with 100kg, on the raised plank again. Managed 9 deep (but painful at this time, as it was my 8th set) squats and failed on the 10th - and that was the first time I used my spotters, and what a brilliant job they did, no drama!
Legs well and truly knackered by now, so I just finished off with a set of weighted sit-ups.
Hope to do another leg routine this week, and I must buy those Impala weightlifting shoes, with the heel!
ETA - Impala shoes ordered!

Need some help guys...
Pretty much 2 years to this day my umbilical hernia was repaired. I twisted funnily the other night getting up off the sofa of all things and felt a sharp pain in the area, I've passed out once and had pain in the area ever since. It seems I've ruptured the repair. I think it's down to me putting 3 stone on over the last two years and the repair has probably been stretched.
I'm seeing the doc tomorrow and he'll be referring me to the consultant no doubt. Then I should get operated on within 16 weeks and be out of action for a further 6 weeks after that.
The help I need is this, what can I do with a barbell and dumbells that's not going to put any pressure on my core? I just want to try and maintain size and strength more than anything over the 20-24 weeks. Obviously squats and deadlifts are completely out!! If it means using cable machines I'll whip something up in the workshop with the welder, anything that will help.
Really gutted as I was half way through a sheiko program that was going really well!
Thanks
Bryan.

However...I'd not follow my own advice and do curls/bench/delt stuff for reps- but I'm not at all sensible.
Tonight>
Bench
Dips
Pull overs
BB curls
Cable curls.
Body starting to adjust to the high volume, diet ends with the year. Biceps were 18" pumped tonight-Ace!

Awesome stuff didely - sounds like the training is going real good. What's going on with the diet for the new year?
Yeah, I'm enjoying it, ego took a dunt at the start, but strength & recovery is improving again, and I think, given time, i'll surpass my previous level. Diet wise, adding in more carbs and dropping fats, bit more calorie wise too. Will be doing more conditioning, so likely training 6/7 days a weeks- low carb would wipe me out! Planning to have a crack at BB comp next November, feeling very motivated with a new purpose to training, also having a training partner who's a beast keeps me pushing hard Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
