Oh, and I seem to be resolutely sitting at 90kg now...

fking well pleased with that! Just about the heaviest I've ever been, still pretty trim, and feeling good biggrin

Deadlifts, went fairly heavy for the first time in a few months, did a triple at 200kg but my lower back is still recovering from squatting every 48 hours for the last month, so stopped there. Will probably go back to banging out reps at 180kg, at least until i get somewhere with my squats. Deadlifts just take it all, i cant squat 3-4x a week and expect to do more than maintain my DL

Think I'm going to buy a belt. Lifting reasonable numbers and wanna try one of for size. Also if i compete this year I might as well use all the help I can get! Not cheap for a decent one though - best part of £100
I have my solid 3¾ lever PL belt. Frpm years back from Pullum, solid...but it digs in too much for deadlifts. I have a velcro Lonsdale belt that I acquired, it's OK for high rep work. I took a look for deadlift belts after reading Rip's article.

I've never used a belt but understood it's better to be consistently wide all round, usually 10cm/4" wide. Most seem to get narrower at the buckle which offers less support, or is that nonsense?

Quick Q -

I have been doing some weights training 3 times a week for about the last 3 weeks.

I'm not trying to become iron man but am trying to create a bit of definition while losing some fat. I'm not fat at the moment, but i'm certainly not athletic.

I've noticed my appetite has increased significantly over the last three weeks, is this part and parcel of the training? I'm worried I am just smashing loads more calories and making myself fatter over any muscle that may build up!

On Sunday I deadlifted 200kgx11 @87kg. Dead stop reps with straps but no belt.

People have opinions. As a rule I don't use a belt for my worksets, it's all done without. I used a belt on my 1RM for squats...and needed it. I attempted a belt on my deads, it was awkward, so I did my 1RM without. I kept the belt on for the bench..and I think I felt the benefit. I went beyond the edge for me on the bench...whearas the squat and dead...I know there is more there.
Read the article that I posted above. I looked at some Konstantine videos linked from it. He wears the traditional 4" but high up...I attempted it today with my power-cleans warm-up sets...again, it felt awkward. So I jacked it in before my worksets.
The old style BB belts always were narrow at the front and wide at the back, and then the PL belts came into vogue, the same thickness all round, and that's the one I bought years ago. I have memories of my PL belt (new at the time) being great...but also awkward for deads back when I did lift heavy. I think I struggled through it back then, but I'm not risking anything this time, I do to much other stuff. I read about one guy that popped a rib on the rim of his stiff belt. biggrin
I think if you know how to use a belt, as described in the article, you'll get the true benefit.

Eric Lilliebridge (who set an all time RAW WR total at the weekend) also wears his above his belly button. Definitely a personal thing but you have to know where you'll get the best use out of it rather than where feels nice.

Belt cuts the crap out of me deadlifting but I get the best support from it where it is. I'd only use it on squats and pulls above 85% of 1RM.

Bench tonight. PB of 95kg (80kg at new years).

Great lifting, well done smile

Tonight>
DB bench
Dips
DB Flys
DB pull overs
BB Curls
Cable curls
Ab rolls

Looking swole biggrin (may even put a pic up in a few weeks time to show my progress!)

Oh, just a slight tweak I've made under the guidance of a good mate I train with. Have been focusing more on chest accessory work on bench day, while increasing volume on the main bench movement.

I now add some triceps work after my shoulder workout on Thursdays. Hitting them twice a week seems to be working great for me and I normally finish shoulders in 40 minutes or so anyway.

Cycle 2 of Wendelr began this morning. Working maxes (90% 1rm):

DL - 140
Squat - 116
Bench - 59
SSP - 45 (cycle 1 for this)

Deads this morning. Felt ok. Managed 8 at 120 for last set. Could have pushed a couple more but form was starting to go.

By the way, I SUCK at front squats! They're so hard! I think part of it is a combination of wrist pain and just not being used to the bar placement. 60kg has never felt so heavy!

You dont need to spend £100 puma

I have one of these - it's proper

I also have a flexible neoprene one which i use for deadlifts - i only use the big chunky one on the heaviest sets of squats

I got a belt here: http://www.sshealthfoods.com/en/search.html?keywor... : and it's been going strong for many year's now and it's taken a battering without issue. Cheap & pretty good quality.

Cheers! I am good at deadlifting relative to my other lifts. Hopefully a 250kg pull is achievable in 2015, ideally weighing <85kg. I had hoped for it before I turn 25 but only got a couple of months!

I'd say 250 is there just now- 200 for 10 gave me ~ 265 1RM.

It's awesome lifting.

1RM calcs dont work for me on deadlifts - i've done 180kgx15, which even if you knock 5 off and say 180x10 gives me a 1RM of 240.... i think 220 is about my limit

Maybe I don't need to spend quite so much on a belt then!

Yeah that is good DLing. When I 10 repped 200kg I only pulled a 230kg single, despite a predicted 260kg ish. I think the high reps skew the results a bit.

Today's effort...

Hyper
3 x 10

DL
1 x 5 at 160kg
1 x 3 at 180kg
1 x 3 at 190kg
1 x 2 at 200kg
1 x 2 at 210kg
1 x 1 at 220kg
1 x 1 at 230kg - happy with matching my pb. Want to smash it this year.

Leg press
up to 6s at 400kg

leg extension
4 x 6

Neutral Russian twist
3 x 16

Wish I had access to a reverse hyper!

Deadlifts tonight. Going to work up to some heavy triples I think and then PB time next week.

Rows, pulldowns, weighted chin ups, some Nordic curls/GHR off the pulldown machine and SLDs.

Today was an easy pace 5k at 12kph on the treadmill.

For those who wanna look at their 1RM more closely, look at the two links I posted from T-Nation.
One details how to warm-up, one details how to work out a 1RM.
