Well that has been a roller-coaster of a 48hrs

Mrs Gumbo wakes up on Tuesday in a bit of discomfort and back pain, took her to work. Get a phone call at 11 saying I have phone the day ward at the hospital and I need to go in!!

10 min drive to get her everything was going through my head we are 23 weeks gone so a little early for the little man to make an appearance.

A very uncomfortable (for her) drive to hospital via home to get the notes, this is the first lesson get her to take them everywhere with them.

By the time we get there the pain is really bad and difficult to watch.

Long story short they think she has a kidney infection but no tests to prove it either that or the little man is lying on the pipe between the kidney and the bladder. They did an ultra sound to check this and we saw him again and he is fine and even gave a wave smile

They kept her in over night on a IV for anti biotics and injectable pain killers to control the agony. I was sent home to the pub and managed 4 hours of semi pissed sleep.

They release her at lunchtime yesterday and she is now on oral drugs and seems to be improving. My helpful work colleagues have pointed out this is the start of the worry.

The main tip from the midwives was to make sure you drink lots of water all the way through pregnancy to flush any problems out.

So how are everyones o/h getting on?

We are just through the first trimester which hasnt been too bad (says he who doesn't have to put up with being pregnant hehe)

Wife had some feeling of sickness (but no actual morning sickness), nausea and went right off certain foods (chicken , eggs) and had a few periods of extreme tiredness.

Seems better now but is having trouble sleeping and needs to go to the toiled about 4 times a night.
We had our 12 week scan on Thursday, all looking good.

My wife is the same as yours, lots of nausea but no actual sickness, can't sleep brilliantly and constantly on the loo!

Roll on the 10th of April!

Agumbo my sis suffered kidney pain as well during her 3rd pregnancy. 3 days in hosp for her (in Oz) she was also in agony.

Popped in here as had midwife appt today as approx 8 weeks pregnant with no 2 smile. Has taken a while this time round so bit cautious. My age is against me, bub's date is currently 8th May, 5 days before my 40th!! Guess I won't be planning any birthday parties.

Has been a rough ride so far, unbelievable tiredness (which I had last time) but also feeling like I'm constantly hungover, even though I'm drinking lots. Hopefully will improve soon!

Next step is the scan, exciting times smile

Really sorry to hear that. Obviously the initial test came up positive?

Well multiple tests have been positive.

At the 13wk dating scan there was an "empty" yolk sack, and the fetal pole was 2.3mm

Which either means that the original baby stopped growing very early, or there is a 2nd pregnancy in very early stages.

We have been booked in for another scan in a week to see if this is viable.

However I think we have decided that this first pregnancy stopped developing very early, and that is that.

Strange day, thought we were OK but the realisation that now there needs to be some sort of procedure is sinking in.

Hopefully the next steps can be swift and we can enjoy Christmas, and get back on the horse in the new year.

I wish everyone on the thread well, and hopefully we'll be back before the end of 2014!

Not surprising you're shocked frown. My cousin went through this twice. Had no problems first time round. They were 3rd time lucky for their second child and all went well for them as I'm sure it will for you.

Really sorry to hear that. That's exactly what happened to us and it was horrible.

Keep positive and remember that if you're both ready she'll be in a perfect position to catch next time.

Blimey. Now this is certainly a thread that I thought I'd never contribute to! As it turns out though, it appears that nature does indeed have a massive sense of humour (plus a small streak of irresponsibility) and has made me a dad eekyikeseek

We've just been for the 12 week scan (which went about as well as it's possible to) and given a due date of the 21st April.

Whilst it's amazing, it's still feels pretty much unreal - me a dad? Unbelievable! biggrin

its an amazing feeling isn't it? We are due for the 20 week scan in two weeks, the first scan we had to do twice as they couldn't get a clear picture of baby, they could make out some feet, but no legs confused but the second time round it was a lot clearer, and that's when it suddenly hit me, seeing my son/daughter for the first time is an experience for the first time is something i will never forget.

20 week scan for us in 3 weeks.

Had the results of our Downs test back today which was low risk. Something like 0.0055% which is a relief.

The wife is getting on ok but still having trouble sleeping and having to get up to pee about 4 or 5 times a night.

I knew I was right to be cautious. Had 12 week scan. Even though I was feeling concerned that not all was well (call it a gut instinct) to be told 'I'm sorry there is no heartbeat' was a shock and very upsetting :-(.

Time for it to all sink in. Was supposed to be going to work after the scan, when the ultrasonographer realised I was still considering doing so she looked horrified and told me that I had to go home, which I did!

Some unpleasant stuff to occur (joy!) but have a log cabin holiday start Nov going to use that to recuperate. Will need it I think :-(

Thank you. Sad news but I am feeling positive for the future. Small procedure under ga tom, few days recovery then a weeks holiday in the Forest of Dean, time for rest and recuperation and thinking ahead to a fresh start. Still hopeful to be part of the 2014 posse if nature allows so watch this space!

If it's not meant to be then I'll remember to feel very blessed that we have our beautiful son smile

Sorry to hear the news Bex.

Everything going well here since the kidney scare, Mrs Gumbo now looks like she is trying to steal a basketball from a sports shop. I am enjoying the kicks and movements but they are getting Mrs G down as he is a very active little man usually at night!

Starting to become very real increased midwife appointments and NCT starting tomorrow which should be interesting, any second timers got any tips?

I'm sorry to hear this. I had another loss in September (4th I think) and it's been quite hard. I ended up with an infection somehow and my GP insisted that I stayed at home - in retrospect rest and recuperation have been the best thing. However, this is the end for me and that for me is the hardest bit.

Keep an eye on the movements of the baby, if your partner has severe headaches with high blood pressure take her to hospital.

My wife had all of the above plus traces of protein in her urine and no baby movement for 24hours, and the surgery midwife said not to worry. Unsure of the midwife, I took my wife to hospital and she was kept for three nights as she had pre-eclampsia so we needed to monitor her blood pressure and my son frown thankfully it was consultant lead after that!

Non worrying things! Prepare an overnight bag for mum to be as you can go from a night at home to a night on the maternity ward very quickly laugh
